3AW Football gonged by AFMA

3AW Football chief caller Rex Hunt was inducted as a life member of the Australian Football Media Association on Wednesday night, for his service to the game he is now an icon for.

At a gathering of AFL media representatives at the MCG, Rex was humble and thankful to have received the honour he said he is very proud of.

Also, 3AW Football's Robert Walls was honoured with being the best special commentator on radio, while 2008 recruit Dennis Cometti was commended in the 'best radio caller' category. 3AW Football's Nathan Buckley won the Most Outstanding Special Commentator - TV award.

3AW stars Walls, Mike Sheahan and Gerard Healy won an award for best TV program (Fox Sports' On The Couch), while Sheahan was also stunned to learn the new media centre at AFL House will be named in his honour.

3AW Football expert Caroline Wilson was a big winner on the night, The Age's chief football writer winning the Alf Brown Award for the media's most outstanding peformer and also taking home trophies for most outstanding columnist and most outstanding news reporter.

Rohan Connolly, of 3AW Football and The Age fame, was adjudged to be the most outstanding feature writer.

Meanwhile, the ALMA paid its respects to Clinton Grybas, 3AW Football's favourite son who passed away before the 2008 season, by naming the Rising Star award after him. The award was taken out by Channel 7's Tom Rehn.

Shane McInnes, who was employed as a 3AW footy caller after Clinton's tragic death, was commended in the category.
