Another year, another $20,000 goes to charity thanks to the Pancake Parlour Challenge.

Two men: one radio host and food appreciator up against the King of the Melbourne food industry – Shannon Bennett.

Conjuring the spirit of Sir Lunch-A-Lot, a long lost food appreciation expert and critic for the breakfast program turned co-host and lunch connoisseur, John Burns will have his have to put his food where his mouth is in the Pancake Parlour Cook Off.

Shannon Bennett is one of Australia’s most acclaimed chefs. His restaurant Vue de monde has won him hats, titles and awards over a number of years and continues to be one of Australia’s most noted restaurants. For a truly memorable dining experience you attend Vue de monde (meanwhile many say that a dining experience is also memorable at John Burns’ but for different reasons).

These two men were issued a challenge ... one that is issued to many apprentices being tested as chefs; the simple omelette.

This was an invention style test. A box of quality Queen Victoria Market ingredients were provided to the challengers to allow them to make their own improvements to the humble omelette. They did not know what these ingredients are in advance.

The contenders presented their dish within the allocated time frame to our judges: Ross Stevenson, our Friday Foodie Ela Carte and 3AW Food critic Bob Hart.

The true winners on the day were the lucky recipients of $20,000 thanks to the Pancake Parlour; The James Macready-Bryan Foundation and Movember.

Breakfast with Ross and John

Ross and John Ross Stevenson and John Burns entertain listeners with their razor sharp wit and oddball humour every morning. And every day the best segments of their on-air - and sometimes off-air - program are published on 3AW.com.au.
