What we're talking about

Don't change water restrictions

Posted by: 3AW Radio | 24 August, 2010 - 11:29 AM

Yestreday the State Government announced that Melbourne would move from Stage 3a water restrictions to Stage 2 from the 1st of September

This means Melburnians will be able to wash their cars and water their gardens for the first time since 2006.

But 3AW's Ross Stevenson believes he should just leave the current restrictions in place and he debated the issue with John Burns on the program.

3AW Breakfast listeners voted overwhelmingly not to ease the restrictions to Stage 2 because they are used to the current system. When asked if 'water restrictions should be lifted?' 82% of people said No, which left 18% wanting to go to Stage 2. You can have your say on www.3aw.com.au.

  • build a dam-problem solved. State governments refuse to build one and keep wasting our tax money, what purpose does state government serve? We are over-governed for 25 million population.

  • This is only an election ploy. Anyone with half a brain knows the water restrictions should stay.

  • Current indigenous animal behaviour and native plant flowering activity suggests that we will have a wet Spring and a mild Summer. This can also be suggested by the Southern Oscillation Index. Winter and Spring rains should also be above average next year. It appears the drought is over and that it was just cyclical after all. Looks like the multi billion dollar De-Sal plant may become a white elephant that will not need to produce fresh water for another 50 years. We will still have to pay for it though.

  • You have to ask why the state government is lifting water restrictions.
Most would say there is an election coming up,and many say we don't need to do it.
    I say it is political.
Why, we all know our water bills have gone up My water usage is just 25% of my bill.
The other is for service charges.
I believe the government is trying to defuse these high charges and to do so is to reduce water restrictions so we all feel good.
    It won't work.

  • Lifting water bans is purely a vote-catcher by Brumby. Last Sunday whilst walking the dog, a neighbour was out hosing the concrete footpath..... How short-sighted can they get here??
