Ela's Morsels- 15th April
Ela Carte’s morsels …
First, I finally got a chance to try out the Taco Truck, after so long promising and planning to track it down. If you haven’t heard of it (or sister van, the Beatbox Kitchen), it’s a mobile eatery that pops up at festivals, and now at random locations across the City of Moreland, armed with up to three delicious taco varieties. The only way to find out where the Taco Truck is going to be is to sign up to their Facebook or Twitter pages and await instructions. Or, as I did, travel the backstreets of Brunswick and cross your fingers. Trawling the streets in the rain was worth it though – for a marinated chicken taco in soft tortilla with chunks of corn straight from the cob; and a crispy tortilla filled with soft potato pieces and topped with green jalapeno sauce and coleslaw. YUM! Tacos are $6 each, which may sound steep until you try them. Worth every penny. See www.facebook.com – search for Taco Truck Melbourne
And finally … if you’re keen to get out and about over the Long Weekend, I’ve sourced a few quick ideas for Easter Dining:
- Esposito – Good Friday: 4 courses for $65, book before Tuesday and get a free dessert.
- Atlantic – Open for dinner and a good excuse to try Donovan Cooke’s new Seafood heaven.
- Bacash – open Good Friday for stunning seafood
- Hellenic Republic – Easter Sunday: 4 courses for $65
- Press Club – Traditional banquet for the end of Lent, Easter Saturday from midnight: four courses and a glass of wine for $80
Plus, get behind the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal by supporting the following:
Parma Week – 14/4 – 21/4 – over 70 locations throughout Victoria, $2 from every Chicken Parma sold will go to the Appeal, see www.goodfridayappeal.com.au for participating hotels.
The Woolshed Pub at Central Pier in the Docklands are running a family fun day on Good Friday, just steps from the festivities at Etihad Stadium. There’ll be a petting zoo, face paining, fairy flosses, and fireworks later, open from 11am.
