Foreign gang EFTPOS scam
UPDATE: Police have uncovered a new EFTPOS scam which involves foreign crime gangs working with corrupt store attendents.
Crime syndicates are reportedly offering at least 40 thousand dollars to staff, who agree to hand over their EFTPOS machine to be tampered with.
Cameras are also secretly installed in the ceiling of the shop to record the customer typing in their PIN.
Senior sargeant Bill Nash from the Major Fraud Squad told 3AW it can often take some time to discover the fraudulent devices.
Senior sargeant Nash said that there is also little the public can do about it.
Listen to the fascinating interview with Ross and John.
3AW's Neil Mitchell took calls from victims of this scam, including one lady who had lost over $4500. Listen to his his interview with caller 'Sue' by clicking on the link below. You may have a similar story?

@ Off The Ricta. I have provided the party Off The Ricta, with no determinable legitimacy to attack my position. I believe it is obvious I have presented a position that highlights the egregious affront to the security of every citizen beyond my personal example of this affront. I say again that not so long ago it was ILLEGAL for a camera controlled by any party to be in a position to view a citizen entering a pin number. I say again that it serves no security advantage for any service provider to have a camera in this position. You should consider why a profoundly important law for the purpose of protecting public security was overturned. And by whom. And you should consider whom or what Off The Ricta represents. I can find absolutely no means to establish this party with an honourable endeavour. As such you are visually recorded at every facility that you have to extract money from every institution. In addition the institutions who are afforded the facility to secure our assets and maintain security have diluted legislation that would secure our invested capital. But perhaps more important is the fact that any jerk off hump back inbreed hillbilly who happens to own a service station has complete access to the private information that equates to our existence. The vast majority of service providers are likely honest but some are not. They all get to view your PIN number on their computers. The real question is WHY this legislation was repealed and who serves to gain from this action. Look no further than the financial institutions and their insurance liability. Losses through fraud are diluted through this legislation. A clever move by perhaps the most destructive sector of every community.

Lloyd Peacock... find something to do with your time instead of hijacking the 3aw website.
IF you had ANY clue about laws and rights, you would know that having your money stolen form an ATM or the likes is THE BANKS PROBLEM.. not the consumers. It's their security that has been breached and they must return your money.
Now... have a cup of tea, a lie down and think about flowers or somethingOff The Ricta Friday 16 July, 2010 - 10:44 AM -

. I have personally registered a claim with CBA for funds taken by a vendor under false pretences and requiring information in excess of my illegal requirement to supply. CBA and the vendor have still not returned the $100.00 illegally taken from my account by this vendor. What the hell is wrong with Australians? When will they take the actions of intelligent, dignified individuals and stand up for their rights.

What sort of a dead beat criminal Australian politician committed treason and allowed this most offensive situation to occur. What are the chances of this cretin having a foreign account. Please 3AW I implore you not to hitch you wagon to facilities and individuals such as this. You have already substantially increased your standing in the Australian community through your integrity. This will grow very quickly in the times ahead if you maintain your integrity.
You may recall that at one stage in Australia it was illegal for any party to have a camera in a position that could record a consumer entering a PIN number. This is an obvious precaution that does not infringe on the security ability of any party. Now the vast majority of eftpos facilities have cameras in a position that can record a customer entering a PIN number. The pathetic and unacceptable representation by ACA clearly suggests the PIN is obtained by another discrete device. At what stage and under what legislation were cameras allowed in a position to view PIN numbers. It is not the obligation of the public to look around every corner to ensure their PIN number is not being recorded. The responsibility to ensure security lies with the banks and the government. The EFTPOS facilities reduce the need for banks to maintain staff and dramatically reduce overhead. At what point will Australia stop accepting these very serious breaches by parties such as government, banking and ACA. In addition to this some facilities demand that consumers provide a signature in order to obtain cash from an EFTPOS. What is next? Perhaps we should all provide the service provider with unknown integrity and security with all of our account details

I have just watched a brief and superficial report on EFTPOS scams by WIN ACA. Unfortunately they have used your name and your face to support their pathetic representation. This program is probably the most egregious affront to the term current affairs and to journalists as a whole. I do not see any value at all for representatives of 3AW, a media facility that has proven itâ??s integrity and journalistic worth to Australians. This seriously detracts from your credibility. ACA provides a never ending stream of fluff, advertising, slander and very shallow representations of important issues. This is the same program that stretched the Australian law and moral boundaries to the limit by broadcasting claims of child molestation before it was reported to the Australian police. The same program paid entertainment professionals whoâ??s remuneration is dependent on public exposure to disclose criminal allegations before they were proven and before they were provided to law enforcement. The fact that other media entities were not able to provide the same information strongly suggests ACA actively sought to keep the information secret. That is a very severe breach of the law, of journalistic integrity and of morality. Why all parties were not prosecuted is entirely beyond me. Under the control of the goanna this would never have been tolerated. Regardless of any opinion of Packer senior he was the last bastion of credible Australian media for the purpose of representing Australians. What sort of an individual would sell such a powerful facility built over generations for yet another casino. Now channel nine is just another wheel in the world media network owned by one group intent on serving one purpose. By the way who owns and controls channel nine now and where is the legislation providing public approval.
