3AW Breakfast wants to help a talented young boxer reach his full potential

At the last Pancake Parlor Challenge Ross and John met Wale Omotoso – also known as “Lucky Boy”.  This young man from Nigeria who now calls Australia home inspired Ross and John with his story of survival and impressed with his love and appreciation for this great country.

Ross and John agreed after meeting this fighter that they would do what they could to help him reach his full potential.

He's got great skills and is so far undefeated. But in order to get to the next level and become a true champion he needs more training, bigger fights, tougher competitors and funding to make it all happen. Today Ross and John spoke to Wale in the studio which prompted leading Melbourne businessman to phone through and pledge their support.

Please read the below background to Wale Omotoso, the Fighter Factory and details of the sponsorship opportunities.

A little more about Wale:

The experts say Wale has a real chance to become a World Champion. His record stands at 17 bouts for 17 wins, 15 by way of knockout. He is the number one ranked Australian welterweight, and holds the Australian title and the OPBF title. He is ranked 27 in the world and 13th by the International Boxing Federation.

Trainer Murray Thomson says Wale could be his Phar Lap. There is already substantial interest in a television documentary on their journey.

Frankly, Wale is too good for local boxers, so he needs financial support to fund a series of fights to extend him to the point he can make his mark on the world stage.

Ross and John are determined to support Wale's journey. We believe that with generous donations from corporate Victoria Wale could evolve from a suburban sensation to World Champion, and you can be a part of that.

How can you help?

A trust fund has been set up to support Wale's efforts to become a world champion boxer, it will be operated by Maurice Blackburn Lawyers and the trustee will be John 'Sly' Silvester.

There are three sponsorship options on offer, each of which rewards businesses for their support:

  • The new generation with all the financial and other support can hardly achieve anything. Just check around. We need to import our so called champions now. More than 50% of them are foreign born and trained. That tells much about the Australia we have always known.
    Australians? Yep. What Australians?
We suck to anything. Just few weeks ago there was our big fuss about the boring soccer circus which as usual ended up in... what we know. Yea. Our sport of the future!
We are now looking for a niche now where we could appear relevant, name it.
Our past sports people of any code use to make us proud,Tennis, Swimming etc.
    Very proud of,what?
    Get real.
