ABOVE: 3AW Breakfast speaks to a dolphin expert regarding the 'leaping and diving' dolphins spotted in the Yarra River by Afternoon talkback callers in Melbourne's CBD on Monday.

Visiting from Port Phillip Bay, the four swapped saltwater for fresh and travelled as far up the river as Herring Island, between South Yarra and Richmond. They particularly enjoyed the area around Swan Street bridge.

"I think they're going through the end of financial year sales down at Chapel Street," Dolphin Research Institute spokesman Jeff Weir jokes. "They like to eat fish and interact with other dolphins."

"We're incredibly lucky to see these guys because up in Sydney they don;t see it any more because Sydney Harbour is so polluted."
