Save Father Bob Maguire
Father Bob Maguire, Melbourne's most recognisable priest, has been asked to resign by Archbishop Denis Hart because he has reached 75 years of age.
3AW Breakfast wants Father Bob, like Dale Kerrigan did in The Castle, to 'tell em to get stuffed'. Get behind their campaign on this page.
In his blog, Father Bob described how he was informed of the news: "Phone rang Wednesday. 'It's the archbishop. I'll be there in 20 minutes.' I didn't have time to think or call for help. Luckily, Judy, the office manager, was present to take notes. By the time he left, I was feeling 90 years of age, not 75, the age of statutory senility."
"He gave me two dates for compliance. One was my birthday. He expects a letter of resignation. The other is a month later. He expects me to vacate the premises. No good whingeing about lack of courtesy or respect for a senior field officer."
"Power makes some people less restrained than they naturally are. Jesus warned about power, especially among his disciples. Someone, later, allegedly said: 'Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely'. It's not a universal absolute. I've known leaders, both civil and military, endowed with enormous power who presented as humble as doormats. They were great leaders for all of that."
I've handed the issue over to the local 'elders'. It's not between me and the archbishop, as far as I'm concerned and he denies."
Should Father Bob be allowed to keep performing his duties?

Marie....you obviously don't like what the great Catholic Religion tells you to do..... you want to make up your own rules..... it don;t work like that sweetie.... old King Henry soon discovered that and he went off and made up his own religion.....The Church of ENGLAND... not ROME!!!!

Well Lisa this is one member of the COMMUNITY who's telling all the interfering busybodies to mind their own beeswax.
No one's got the right to tell any organisation or business who to hire or fire so why should the catholic church be any different.

NO Nathan
This is a 'COMMUNITY' matter & the catholic church consists of an enormous amount of COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
You could turn it many ways & ask 'why does the catholic church put its nose into so many other matters - including politics'. It goes both ways & again a clear example of the 'double standards' that the church likes to hide under. Instead I say THANK YOU 3 AW!!Lisa Tuesday 22 September, 2009 - 10:38 AM -
Am I right in saying this is a catholic church matter?
So what the hell has this got to do with 3AW or anyone else for that matter.
I wonder what 3AW would say if the catholic church decided who should stay or go at 3AW...
I reckon the catholic church would be right in telling 3AW Breakfast to 'tell em to get stuffed'. coz I am.

It's typical of the Catholic Church. When they get someone who explains their doctrine in a way people UNDERSTAND...they have to get rid...just in case we may start asking questions 'they' can't answer.
