Sydneysiders have woken to a red haze unlike anything seen before by residents or weather experts, as the sun struggles to pierce a thick blanket of dust cloaking the city this morning.

  • MR BRUMBY - when are you gonna get serious about upgrading the facilities at the Bureau of Meteorology? We've had tornados in this country for many years, particularly when we are only second behind the US as far as incidence. Bendigo has had mini tornados for many years. They used to cross the city in a line between Epsom and Kangaroo Flat, doing extensive damage to roofs etc. It was always put down to extreme storm damage, when it was more likely the result of mini tornados. The incidence of tornados will rise as weather conditions becomes more extreme. Isn't it about time BOM starting upgrading their software to predict possible tornados, or are we going to continue to pretend they don't exist in this country and wait until we have mass fatalities before you decide to act???

  • Dust storms in Canberra & Broken Hill, damaging winds in 3 other states, 3cm hail, multiple severe thunderstorms, floods, bushfires, a severe tornado, 150kph winds, and that's just in the past 24 hours~! Mr RUDD, if the world doesn't START getting serious about climate change, you won't have a country to defend, let alone produce enough income to address storm damage~! THIS is our immediate future and ANYONE who thinks clean coal technology for power production is even remotely feasible, is living in fantasyland~! We are FAST approaching the point of NO return~!
