Tiger Woods - Live on 3AW Radio

Posted by: 3AW Breakfast | 11 November, 2009 - 7:43 PM

World No.1 golfer Tiger Woods has lived up to the hype by shooting an opening-round 66 – six-under par – to claim a share of the lead in the JBWere Masters at Kingston Heath golf club.

Fans showed up in their thousands shortly after 6am on Thursday in anticipation of Woods’ 7:30am tee-off time.

After a steely-eyed Woods, flanked by security, arrived at the course he proceeded to hit balls on the practice fairway for around 30 minutes before heading to his opening hole – the 10th – to join playing partners Rod Pampling and Craig Parry.

After smashing his opening tee-shot around 300 metres Woods made par before racking up seven birdies in the last 17 holes.

Woods picked up shots on the 12th and 14th on his front-nine before going on a rampage on his second nine.

The American picked up shots on the 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th before registering his only blemish of the day – a bogey on his final hole.

South African Branden Grace is on six-under and level with Woods and Australian James Nitties also shot a 66 to complete the tree-way tie at the top of the leaderboard.

Australia’s most recent major tournament winner, Geoff Ogilvy, is two-under-par while Woods’ playing partner Parry also made a solid start with a 70 (two-under) as well.

Pampling carded a 71 to be five shots off the pace.

3AW will have live updates throughout the day to keep you posted on how the other players are going.

  • Absolutely Grouse, The coverage of Tiger's opening shot this morning. I still have goosebumps. Thanks Ross John and Graham for capturing the moment for us and for giving us what Free to air could not. I would rather listen to all of you anyday. A classic melb sporting moment which I will never forget.

  • Since when has Sydney been in charge of what Melbourne can show. Obviously Sydney are jealous of the fact that Tiger chose to play in Melbourne and not Sydney, because we have a far better course at Kingston Heath.
I would prefer any day to watch Tiger playing Golf, than watching Kerri-Anne any day.
Kerry Packer would be rolling over in his grave over this.

  • 3aw did a wonderful job of broadcasting the golf this morning, however I was disgusted with the Sydney bias at not telecasting it live on TV. How could Kerry Anne & the today show be more important than TIGER!

  • It's great to see people spend the dollars to go and see Tiger Woods play. It's a pity they have to park in private business car parks to avoid paying the $10 parking fee.

One Golf Fan best be prepared to wait a few hours when they get back to their car because I am not moving mine till I finish at 7pm. I just happen to be parked in front of one of them who is in my spot. $10 may seem cheap tomorrow.

  • 1. Channel 9 = JOKE
I can not beleive that they would not show the am golf live. There should be riots in the streets!!!

What's next... AFL grand final will have a 2 hour delayed telecast

    2. www.australianmasters.com.au hosted by Bigpond = EVEN BIGGER JOKE
You would think that with channel 9 not showing it live that Bigpond (hosts) might do something... Cant even get onto the website!!!

    3. THANKS BREAKY BOYS FOR BEING THERE FOR THE PEOPLE :)

  • I agree that Tiger Woods should have been shown of Free to Air.
    Why?
    1. Because it was a total sell out
    2. More imprtantly we the tax payer paid out 3 million dollers to get him here, yet we are being deprived of seeing him.
Once again the government has reacted and not thought the whole ting through
But they will only want to see that there decision was correct
