3AW Football gonged at AFMA awards

BEHIND THE SCENES: 3AW Football Producer Luca Gonano and Technical Director Adam Moloney put a lot of work into the preview programs which received awards.
REPORT: 3AW Football enjoyed a great result at the Australian Football Media Association Awards held on Wednesday night at the MCG, scooping two major awards.
Nathan Buckley won 'Best Special Commentator – Radio' while the 3AW Football preview (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) won 'Best Football Radio Show'.
Sports Today hosts and Fox Sports personalities Gerard Healy and Dwayne Russell also scooped major awards – Healy winning ‘'Best Special Commentator – Television' and Russell winning 'Best Football Caller – Television'.
Healy's Fox Sports TV show, On The Couch, was also recognised as the best program in that medium.
Herald Sun journalist Damian Barrett won the prestigious Alf Brown award for best performer in Australian footy media.
Channel Nine's John 'Sam' Newman was among four people inducted into the AFMA Hall Of Fame and delivered what some would describe as a bizarre acceptance speech while others labeled it as nothing more than vintage 'Sammy'.
Newman indicated he might have preferred being at Beyonce Knowles' Melbourne gig rather than the AFMA awards and appeared to make light of the media's role in footy.
After a free-wheeling speech where he accused many people in footy media of not being 'themselves' he was light-heartedly told to 'get off' by Channel 7 boss Ian Johnson, sitting in the front table.
Newman proceeded to say into the microphone 'get f----d' before leaving the stage.
AFMA spokesman Mike Sheahan later made it clear he was unimpressed with what he perceived to be Newman's disregard for the Hall Of Fame award, saying: "Sam told me a week or so ago he would be honoured to accept this award. I think he told me a fib."
Other Hall Of Fame inductees Lloyd Brown, Geoff Poulter and Brian Hansen were gracious and thankful to be recognised for their careers in the footy media.
You can hear 3AW Football's Nathan Buckley in his special commentator role during Saturday night's preliminary final between Geelong and Collingwood while Gerard Healy and Dwayne Russell can be heard every weekday from 6pm on Sports Today.

Sam can be funny sometimes but mostly he's an ungrateful and big-headed a$#%hole. What he does in the footy media has made him very rich and the least he could do is act like a half reasonable bloke rather than the jag-off that he is.

Well i think it's totally correct. How can the AFL Media awards not recognize anything done by Channel 9 or Triple M??
Its clearly bogus. And if he sat thru a whole night of watching these folks win all the awards, no wonder it pissed him off. Considering he has been instrumental in bringing AFL footy to the public thru the media and tv outlets.
The AFL boss needs to spend less time dining at Silks and realizing that such an awards night - if not represented by ALL networks with footy shows - is FAKE,BOGUS and RIGGED.

Jack...Sam appeals to me because of his honesty and I have a tertiary education with honours, so your first statement is already very wrong. Your final sentence is nothing more than your personal opinion, so I'm not sure why you would use this to argue your point.
The irony is that Sam still does what he does because people like yourself continue to react to his words and actions and in doing so you keep him in the spotlight. Like they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity....

Well done Sam! Keep on being yourself and those people who enjoy listening to your very valid and intellectual opinions will continue to enjoy your ranting and raving.
Those who don't like your work can keep listening to the mindless dribble that other pretenders dish out week after week.
All you who knock Sam, remember one thing - opinions are never wrong. People who parade around pretending to know the truth are often wrong, but Sam's opinions are always just that....opinions. The fact that his delivery is sometimes controversial and perhaps a little contrived does not take away from the fact that he is an intelligent man who continues to make megabucks because you fools who jump up and down keep him in a job!

Sam appeals to lots of people but all of them are simple uneducated meatheads. I'm tipping Bluey is an A grade tiprat and Woodsy, Sandy ( M or F??) and Angus ..you blokes are kidding yourselves. Sam is 5 years past his prime and shpuld be a poster boy for botched eye surgery.
