AFL Fixture 2010: Need To Know
EXTRA TIME SLOTS:
- Monday Night and Thursday night football will again be trialled, with St Kilda and Carlton to meet at Etihad Stadium the night after Mother's Day.
- There will be three Thursday night matches, interestingly two of which are between Brisbane and Carlton. The AFL obviously looking to capitalise on Brendan Fevola against his old club.
- If you like Saturday afternoon football, you're going to be disappointed come Round 12. Four weeks without any Saturday afternoon football in Melbourne.
VENUES:
- TIO Stadium: Two matches, with home games to Bulldogs and Melbourne both playing against Port Adelaide (Rounds 18 and 9)
- Aurora Stadium: Four Matches (R5, 12, 18 and 21). Twilight match against North Melbourne on ANZAC Day, then games against Adelaide, Brisbane and Fremantle.
- ANZ Stadium: Three Matches (R1, 13, and 18). The media will doubt analyse every crowd at Homebush Stadium ahead of Western Sydney’s introduction to the competition in 2012.
- Manuka Oval: Just the one game in Canberra this year (with Melbourne playing a home game in Darwin instead). Round 8: Western Bulldogs v Sydney
- Skilled Stadium: Will host its first match in Round 4 due to re-development. Cats fans will have to wait a while for the unfurling of their premiership flag.
SPLIT ROUND:
- Will be a 5 and 3 split in 2010, with the Sydney v Collingwood game again on the Saturday night of the second week at ANZ Stadium.
- The Split round, in round 13, will also be the first and only time in 2010 that the 2009 Grand Finalists, St Kilda and Geelong, play each other.
ROUND 22:
- The AFL has tentatively put 8 matches into time slots, however, these matches may be moved to allow flexibility come finals time. But, given games have already been assigned to television broadcasters, it's hard to see how they're going to be moved without creating argument between the networks.
