Ben Cousins retires from AFL
In front of a packed crowd at the Punt Road gymnasium, Ben Cousins announced his retirement from AFL football.
With players, coaches, family and friends watching on Cousins announced that he will walk away from AFL football at seasons end.
The 2005 Brownlow medallist thanked his two clubs, his previous coaches, his family and the football public for showing so much support during good times and bad.
Cousins says he would have liked to continue with the Tigers and help them on their way to success but the 32-yearold says the time was right to the 15 year journey.
Cousins leaves the game as a Brownlow medallist, a premiership player, a four time best and fairest winner and six time All Australian.
He plans to stay in Melbourne and pursue Business interests next year and hasn't ruled out taking a drug education role with the AFL.

Neil, all I have to say is just because you seem to have been blessed with 2 near perfect children does not mean that they might not succumb to something bad if they ever have to go through a bad time. So, shut up about Ben Cousins and just be grateful that your kids are not on drugs. Never forget Karma.

Neil Mitchell stating that ice is the hardest drug, and that Ben Cousins has been bad for football is another example of ignorance and poor education.
Alcohol is a drug but is very accepted, yet look at the damage it creates when abused. Just a fraction more people abuse this drug than ice, couldn't we say? And as for legal versus illegal drugs - quite frankly there is not much difference in a lot of cases. The Pharmaceutical companies control what is legal versus illegal, and is often not to improve human health, but rather for profit.Neil Tuesday 17 August, 2010 - 6:01 PM -
