Carlton bans John Elliott from the club

Carlton has taken a hard-line stance and barred controversial ex-president John Elliott for his recent claim the Blues paid ‘hush money’ to alleged victims of sexual abuse by players from the club.

Elliott has refused to elaborate publicly on his claims, which centre around a period in the early 90s, since he first chose to raise them over a week ago.

Since that time, Victoria Police has indicated it will investigate any reported offences relating to the claims, while the AFL has slammed Elliott for his apparent blasé attitude to the issue of sexual abuse of women.

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Carlton President Stephen Kernahan made it known that 'Big Jack' was no longer a member of the Blues family.

"We all have to take responsibility for our comments and actions and everyone at Carlton; members, supporters, officials, players, coaches, past players, indeed the entire Carlton family have been insulted by John's comments," Kernahan said.

"As a result, while John harbours such opinions he will not be welcome at the club and he will not be permitted to attend any official Carlton Football Club functions."

Kernahan says the Blues have conducted an investigation into the comments Elliott made – speaking to those involved with the Blues hierarchy at the time – and found there is no basis to the allegations.

"We have noted he (Elliott) has since publicly claimed to know nothing about these alleged payments," said Kernahan.

Carlton coach Brett Ratten stuck true to his word and joined the 3AW Football panel on Saturday, despite his side's 69-point loss to Essendon coming just hours earlier. Ratten made his thoughts on John Elliott's 'hush money' claims known and refused to rule out dropping 'The Fev' after his shocker against the Bombers.
