Essendon fan site faces scrutiny
NOW PLAYING: Andrew Demetriou on 3AW Mornings.
EARLIER THIS WEEK: Football supporters are passionate. No doubt about that. But surely, racism, offensive language and insults are going too far.
The Essendon football club fan site bomberblitz.com has posted a match review story at the weekend entitled 'Bombers done like a dogs dinner'.
The story has a glaring offensive reference to the Docklands Stadium at which the game was played. The author (who remains anonymous at this point) of the 11-paragraph story refers to the venue as Jihad Stadium.
This reference is repeated later in the story and is extremely offensive by what is implied by replacing Etihad with Jihad - the term for 'holy war'.
The Middle Eastern airline has paid big sponsorship bucks to name the stadium. Football fans, and by association football clubs, need to nurture positive relations, rather than undermine relationships by hurling insulting or offensive language.
The website says it's not linked in any form with the Essendon Football Club. It does display the club history, forums, player injuries and suspensions, the AFL ladder, scores and stats and more.

How many times do you idiots need to be told?
Jihad Stadium is called that on HUNDREDS of websites (not just bomberblitz) on the internet including by 3AW's own Rohan Connolly on The Age website
