Final siren for Fev?

Troubled AFL star Brendan Fevola will be not be charged in connection with his booze-fuelled antics at last year's Brownlow Medal ceremony.

Victoria Police said this afternoon there would be no action against Fevola.

‘‘Police have reviewed the situation regarding Brendan Fevola and the incident last September, ‘‘ a police spokeswoman said.

‘‘We can confirm that Victoria Police will be taking no further action in relation to this matter,’’ she said.

The news comes hours after the Brisbane Lions suspended the Coleman medalist indefinitely pending a police investigation into an indecent exposure allegation leveled at Fevola by a mother of four. It is alleged Fevola exposed himself to the woman after accompanying her to her car to sign a football.

It is understood that the woman, a Carlton supporter, went with Fevola and another Lions player to Fevola's car so he could give her a signed football for one of her children. The alleged incident is understood to have occurred as the woman approached the open car door and Fevola handed over the football.

Speaking to Neil Mitchell, Ricky Nixon, the man who brokered the deal to get the former Blue to the Brisbane Lions, said Fev's career was almost certainly over if the allegations were found to be true.

AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said the league might also take matters further regardless of whether charges against Fevola are ever brought forward.

A clearly angry and agitated Brisbane Lions chairman Angus Johnson made it clear there would likely be serious consequences for Fevola.

''Can I just make one point there - this club will be taking action,'' Johnson said.

''We have to be patient and we have to wait for the investigation to be completed and then action will be taken. This is more than just a football matter for this club.

''This is a matter the board has taken very seriously, we've acted decisively, and by me sitting here today with [chief executive] Michael [Bowers] this is testimony to how seriously the club is taking this allegation.

''We're clearly very disappointed.''

Fevola reportedly earned about $500,000 this season, of which Carlton paid about $100,000.

  • Cheryl, the police comments are not based on this week's scandal, but the one from last year that got him sent to Brisbane.

  • Yep... the 'Glory Boys' claim they are going to charge the Fev for something he did nearly a year ago...?
Just another typical example of Victoria's 'Camel Jockey' policing!
