Jason Akermanis sacked
ABOVE: How the drama of Jason Akermanis' sacking unfolded on 3AW Radio today.
REPORT: The Western Bulldogs have terminated Jason Akermanis's contract just six weeks before the end of the home-and-away season and with a finals campaign awaiting the club.
President David Smorgon said it had become apparent that the two were 'on different paths'.
The club will pay out in full the term of Akermanis' contract, which was due to expire at the end of this season.
The Bulldogs have become fed up with Akermanis constantly disrupting the group and breaching confidences.
Bulldogs midfielder Daniel Cross has admitted some of the players are apprehensive about what's in Akermanis' upcoming book.

I think the treatment given to Aker and Dipper is downright disgusting and un- Australian.

What a load of waffle. Any player that chooses to play AFL at the highest level has to accept the baggage that comes with that. If Aker is not willing to toe the line then he can expect to be axed, we really are getting down to semantics with his description of the exit from the Lions. Even Lethal admits he was sacked. Sacked, managed out, asked to leave, prompted to resign - call it whatever, namely for being a destablising influence on the coaching staff and not having the personal respect of many of the players due to his outspoken media presence (even then). It seems that history has repeated, although the Dogs should have been aware of what they were getting into, the blame is probably 60/40 in Akers direction. Many of his excuses are quite purile, almost like schoolyard reasoning for his indiscretions. I have great respect for the Dogs making this difficult decision and hope they perform well in the finals.

Aker will always be remembered as the Greatest player but his detractors will disappear in oblivion. Some like LMatthews and co are over breathing to keep an undeserved spot at the edge of a sports TV desk. These come and go but Aker stays for ever in the mind and the eyes of the people. Now they made him even bigger than he would have been. I have the same opinion of those Aker is allergic to.

All the playing list agreed that Jason Akermanis had to go. All (?).....yes when asked by the 'management'! To all those players who voted to give Aker the heave-ho....please do not ever write a book about your football career...a) you would be a total hypocrite and b) seeing as it would be 'I respected and liked all my team-mates' - no-one would want to read it! Yawn......get real...Bulldogs heirachy if integrity was at the core...then you'd be able to wear the fact that someone rejected the 'program'. The death of personality is well and truly here.

Hahahaha give it away now Akermanis. You and your bigot mates are a small sad group for dripping to the media. I reckon half these comments are written by Aker himself!

Jason Akermanis an amazing athletic footballer. How excited we were when you arrived. When you first joined the bulldogs there was concerns then with supporters that certain individuals in the team dilebratley would not kick or pass the football to you when you were clearly in position to set the play up for potential goals. This was mention at a Footy Show at Spotswood, and was clearly never addressed.
You are a smart football and I so enjoyed watching your skills and ability to think on your feet and change a game around for a positive result.
Too many egos involved in management and certain Bulldogs players, the need to change the culture of football players and administration to decided on the future of an experience player when "TRUST" is only required on the field. Don't pidgeon hole players. Aker you have been victimized, isolated from the group and bullied.Where are your support team rallying behind you for un-fare dismissel. Strike action required!!!!
Brad Johnson should have embraced the experience of a new player to the squad to take the pressure of him. Brad needs to understand there is NO I in Team. No longer a Bulldog supporter/membership holder.
I am shattered that as a Club and the Team who management think they are did not work through this and set up individual Key Performance Indicators.Goodbye akeramanis and bulldogs.
