Some of the things Aker will be remembered for:

- Jason Akermanis debuts for the Brisbane Bears in 1995 after being scouted from the Mayne Football Club

- Aker played 38 games in two years for the Brisbane Bears until they merged with Fiztroy to become the Brisbane Lions in 1997

- He become a solid player for the Lions, making up one of the 'fab 4' midfield, alongside Simon Black, Nigel Lappin and Michael Voss

- He became a crowd favourite in Brisbane and would often perform for the fans after games. This included doing handstands and kissing the ground in front of the cheer squad at home games.

- Jason Akermanis is a triple Premiership player, winning the flag with the Brisbane Lions in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

- He won the Brownlow medal in 2001.

- He won Goal of the Year in 2002.

- Due to increasing tensoions with coach Leigh Matthews and the Brisbane players, Jason was sacked by the club in 2006. He played a total on 210 games for the Brisbane Lions

- In 2007 Jason was signed up by the Western Bulldogs.

- In 2010 he made inflammetry comments regarding gay AFL footballers. Akermanis wrote an article in the Herald Sun whereby he advised young gay players who are "thinking of telling the world (about their sexual orientation to) forget it."

- on July 21 the Bulldogs sacked Jason Akermanis after playing 75 games.

- Jason will be remembered as one of the AFL's more colourful characters. He is a member of the 300 club, playing a total of 323 games. He has always been outspoken which has often been at odds with club directors, coaches and players.
