Tim Lane joins 3AW Football
Football's radio merry-go-round continued last night when Tim Lane, one of Australia's most respected sporting broadcasters, quit the ABC after more than 30 years, to join 3AW.
Lane has signed on with 3AW to call football each Sunday until the end of 2011, the duration of the current AFL broadcast agreement. He will call the 2010 grand final with the station's other big-name recruit, Brian Taylor.
Lane's decision to quit 774 ABC, where he has worked as a contracted caller for five years after joining Channel Ten in 2003, follows Taylor's move from Triple M to head up 3AW's football team, replacing Rex Hunt.
Hunt signed a one-year deal with Triple M earlier this week.
3AW's general manager Shane Healy last night described Lane's recruitment as a coup for the station. ''He brings enormous credibility to 3AW football,'' he told The Age. ''One of football's most respected commentators and callers has now joined the best football commentary team in the business and we are delighted."
''Tim has long been regarded as a doyen of football, cricket, Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games and he is someone any football broadcast would be thrilled to have on their team.''
Lane, a columnist with The Age and The Sunday Age, will call football on 3AW each Sunday with Tony Leonard. He will also work as a commentator with morning host Neil Mitchell outside the football season.
Hunt's move to Triple M raised industry eyebrows, given the widely held view that experienced caller Eddie McGuire would expand his new role at the station to include football. But Hunt is expected to vacate the position after a season, making way for former Western Bulldog Luke Darcy.
Brian Taylor joins 3AW
3AW confirms Australia's most popular football caller Brian Taylor will
be joining 3AW Football starting next season.

Tim Lane is fantastic and he is so easy to listen to...He is great with the Sunday team, he even knew Lisa Maria Lloyd's correct name! Great work!

Tim is an excellent caller but not sure he's suited to 3AW. The pre-game was terrible yesterday. It needs the odd bit of humour but Tim was trating it more like a history lesson. He needs to lighten up or should be held just for the commentary and not be involved in pre-game stuff.

Tim you sound like a fish out of water having to comprimise your talent with the McHungry KFC scoreboard on a sesame seed bun announcments. The knuckle draging AW audience does not deserve your words of wisdom. Kerry Stokes claimed you were too ugly for TV(pot calling Kettle black) I say your voice is too good for commercial radio. Come back before I switch codes.

Tim Lane, you have to be joking. Hope that his contracts requires him to call football only and leave out all the rest of the ridiculous rubbish he goes on with.

Tim Lane is Australias premier sports caller. He knows how to engender the right amount of emotion in his call and remain clear and discriptive. Unlike Rex whos histerical nonsense was just a bunch of confused noise.

BT is brilliant but Tim Lane. Come on is this the politicaly correct decision to appease the womem and left? What a hypocrite Lane is wouldnt work beside Eddy a couple of years back yet takes the corporate dollar so quickly when it suits. Lousy caller, tries to talk down to us plebs and even quotes shakespear and tries to be funny. Wrong person in wrong place. To politicaly correct and elitist hope BT puts him in he place when he is condescending. GO BT GREAT CALLER.Bad luck Rex but I had no idea who you were calling in the end and your ranting realy lost me .
