3AW Mornings: Group sex debate

Posted by: 3AW Mornings | 12 May, 2009 - 2:57 PM

ABOVE: 3AW's Neil Mitchell and TV critic Nicole Brady discussed the ABC Four Corners program which dealt with a group sex incident which has caused a New Zealand woman to be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Included in the above audio is video of the 'apology' of Matthew Johns, one of the NRL identities involved in what Neil describes as a 'disgusting episode'.

In saying that, Neil also raises whether the NRL players should have been named given there was no criminal convictions arising fro the group sex incident.

"Are these people not entitled to do it, in private?", asks Neil.

Do you have a view on this issue?

For the NRL's part, league boss David Gallop fronted the media and apologised to the women who appeared in the program, which included one woman who said her life was destroyed by the group sex incident in 2002 involving several Cronulla footballers, including former player Johns.

"I again offer my apologies on behalf of the game for the pain those women experienced," Gallop said.

"Violence against women is abhorrent and sexual assault and the degradation of women is just that. So much of what we saw last night was fundamentally indefensible. If anyone in the game today is ignoring the importance of that message, then frankly they will need to find another career."

"This is not a time for clubs and players to complain about the media or the fact that victims have spoken out. It's a time to accept the changes we are putting in place or get out of rugby league."

"That must happen not just for the sake of the game but for the sake of the vast majority of our players who do not deserve to be associated with such headlines and whose work in inspiring people in the community is so often unheralded."

"Rugby league means an important and enormous amount to millions of people and in many ways the football we see today and the strength of the competition is better than it's ever been. But no amount of on field success can take away from the need to face up to these issues."

Parents need to step up: Hinch

Matthew Johns "It has been announced that VicHealth has given Maribynong Council more than quarter of a million dollars to host classes for young males on appropriate ways to treat women." Hinch thinks it's time parents took some responsibility - read more.

  • Stu, it's taken you 6 months to come up with that pathetic CRAP~! LMFAO Swingers are regarded as the 'scum of the earth', and have the HIGHEST incidence of STD's bar none ANYWHERE in the world~! Stick to the gutter, it's where you belong~!

  • Lenny.....you don't know what you are tre talking about. The fact that you relate swingers to whores (which I don't approve of) speak volumes about your ignorance. Monogamy might be what society says is normal, but it isn't normal, and it is not common. Most peopel are not monogamous, the best they manage is serial monogamy. Your narrow mindedness shows through your post, you deem consenting adults (especially women) engaging in sexual conduct that you find immoral, to be unacceptable and feel it should be punished.....(especially guys) This is the same attitude gays, lesbians, bi sexual people have had to put up with since time began. It's became unacceptable persecute those groups but hetrosexual people that engage in your deemed immoral behavior are still hunted like witches. And by the way, the women I know who are into group sex are not whores, and would not take money for sex....there is a big difference and if you can't see that then your blind

  • Stu - swinging parties/whores have been around since the year dot, which may suit your mentality & lifestyle, but most CIVILISED people place a far greater value on commitment in relationships, particularly monogamous relationships. What you conveniently forget to articulate is that swingers have the HIGHEST incidence of STD'S bar none~! Tell us something we don't know~!

  • I've been having group sex for donkeys years. 3somes, 4somes, gangbangs, you name it. I go to parties full of people who like it too, your neighbors wife could be the biggest gangbang girl in the world for all you know. Heaps of women like and look for group sex you morons. My own wife loves a few guys at a time.....and why shouldn't she......grow up and stop seeing any sex act that you don't personally like or agree with as a violation imjposed on a woman by men. People I know who run a gangbang party for women who want to have sex with heaps of guys at once is overbooked and knocking back women every month because they can't fit them in....these are well dresed, educated, financially successful, independent women, often attending with their husbands....so are they victims are they. You people who insist on the outdated notion that women are sexually conservative and passive are the sexist pigs....and you have to keep twisting reality to keep your sexually restrictive opinion of women alive because you just can not handle the fact that women are having sex with whoever they want to, for pure pleasure and excitment...and not conforming to you standards.....hence, you have to find a male villian and a female victim for every sexual encounter that does not support of image of women. Unfortunately some women can make a lot of money cashing in on the self proclaimed victim with all of you jerks willing to indulge her. What you hate most about these footy players is that women flock to them and wnat you have sex with them.....and you hate them for that

  • In this type of offence, juries decide guilt or innocence, whereas judges decide points of law and admissibility of evidence. Here the DPP can appeal a case if he feels there has been a gross miscarriage of justice, as in an insufficient/inappropriate sentence befitting the crime, or the sentence does no meet normal public expectations. I believe that Police can make a determination not to proceed with a prosecution, on the basis that the prosecution is unlikely to be successful.

  • MITCHELL, are you bloody senile or what!?!? The Group Sex Debate on the 12th May 2009. Here you were arguing on behalf of the players, stating it was consensual sex, as if this information was a proven fact! Quote: "this is a consensual event between adults". WHO gave you the right to make a judgement about a situation you OBVIOUSLY know nothing about! WHY shouldn't 4 Corners expose a public record? Johns stated that the incident, "caused enormous pain and embarrassment", an amazing statement coming from a man who was the principal instigator of the event! WHY wouldn't the woman be traumatised when she was denied an opportunity for her day in court, particularly an opportunity to publicly present her side of the story? NO charges were laid PURELY because (quote Nicole Brady), "the police deemed that they would not be able to get a successful prosecution", NOTHING whatsoever to do with the event being deemed consensual sex~! MITCHELL, please explain exactly how you came to the conclusion, "no law had been broken"? Are you brain dead or what?!?! IT WAS NEVER DEEMED TO BE A CONSENSUAL ACT BY POLICE! GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!! PLEASE explain how you then came to the conclusion, "they're entitled to be considered innocent of any crime, because they haven't been charged with any crime." NO they are NOT innocent because of a reluctance by Police to pursue the matter in court! Neil, you are a disgrace to the journalistic profession. No wonder women were jumping up and down, listening to your CRAP! Your comments on this day should NEVER have been broadcast! Don't EVER call yourself a journalist! That day alone proved you are a pompous bungling idiot~!
