3AW's Fire Assistance Directory

Posted by: 3AW Radio | 9 February, 2009 - 12:33 PM
Victoria is preparing for a massive fire effort Please see a list of people willing to help out in this time of crisis. If you can help, post your details below. 3AW thanks everyone for their outpouring of support and we also encourage the major charities to cast their eye over the database and contact people who can help them. 3AW will endeavour to pass the many offers added below to those most in need.

While we appreciate all donations, we have had a lot of second-hand (damaged goods) that have come to the distribution centres below, we can't use these. We require new, non soiled, ‘good quality’ clothing/products.

We can not use second-hand underwear/socks etc – they must be brand new.

It actually costs money to have the soiled items removed and wastes our volunteers time. If you deliver soiled goods you will be turned away.

  • The Hawthorn Cycling Club in conjunction with its sponsors The Freedom Machine have organised a fundraising event on Saturday 28 February for the communities devastated by the recent bushfires.

We are hoping that many of the thousands of cyclists that regularly ride along Beach Road will this Saturday stop at Brighton Beach Gardens between 8 and 11 AM to enjoy a coffee and refreshments and make a contribution to the fund raising. Cyclists are also asked to wear a black armband as a sign of respect. All funds raised go to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009.

  • My friends and I have collected over 100 new and near new handbags and filled them with goodies to show support for the women affected by bushfires. Am sure they won't be thinking of girly stuff for a while yet, but hopefuly will bring a bit of cheer.
Where is a good place to take them..having a bit of trouble finding an agency that can accept them just now...All suggestions gratefully received especially as it looks like another 100 are on the way in the next week. Thanks
