TODAY: A man has been arrested over the sexual assault of a 99-year-old woman at Ormond early this month.

The 23-year-old Queensland man was arrested in Keperra yesterday afternoon by Queensland police.

He faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court where Sexual Crimes Squad detectives successfully applied for his extradition to Victoria.

The man will face the Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow charged with one count of attempted rape.

EARLIER THIS MONTH: Victoria Police are still on the hunt for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 99-year-old woman in her Ormond home last weekend.

Police held an information caravan in the area yesterday and a police spokesman told 3AW the officers had 'quite a good response with a lot of people coming to speak to them'.

It's also been confirmed that Crime Stoppers has received a number of calls since a FACE image of the suspect was released to the media on Friday.

The crime, which has severely traumatised the frail victim, has angered many people in the community.

Please see a description and FACE image of the man police wish to speak to by scrolling down this page and please contact Crime Stoppers if you can provide any assistance to investigators.

Police: Suspect may have staked out

REPORT: Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a 99-year-old woman in her Ormond home on the weekend.

It is believed the woman was home alone when the man knocked on the front door of her Koornang Road house and forced his way in between 10-11am on Saturday 4 September.

The man physically and sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing on foot.

The woman was conveyed by ambulance to hospital for treatment.

Detective Inspector Glenn Davies of the Sexual Crimes Squad said the ‘‘disturbing crime’’ had a ‘‘profound effect on the woman and her family’’.

‘‘We’re appealing to anyone who might have information that could lead us to identifying the person," he said.

‘‘We’re very concerned about this type of crime ... This woman is a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. I think people in the community would be absolutely appalled by this.’’

He said the victim was ‘‘very traumatised’’ by the attack and remained in hospital almost a week later.

The alleged attacker is described as Caucasian, 17-20 years of age, approximately 5’4” or 160cm tall, with a thin build and brown straight messy hair.

An image of the man police would like to speak to and a t-shirt that the he is believed to have been wearing is attached.

Sex_ass_Ormond Police will be conducting an information caravan on Koornang Road, just north of Leila Road, to appeal for public assistance between 9.30am-12.30pm tomorrow, Saturday 11 September.

Anyone with information regarding the sexual assault or recognises the man pictured above is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.

  • I agree with Janet Page. BRING BACK the DEATH PENALTY. Neo-liberalism has had too much sway in our governments. The ideals are fine but humans are flawed. People need law and order, and encouragements and deterrents. Stop the drunken violence in our cities with curfews and early closure of clubs and alcohols outlets. It's cheaper to prevent and deter crime than police it! Too many "human rights" have made life cheap. There must be the ultimate price to allow safety for society's most vulnerable.

  • This is not a "man" but a piece of scum! There are too many "human rights" that these low-lives hide behind, knowing that their ultimate "right" to survive fairly decently will not be denied. The vulnerable in our society, including animals, need protecting from savages like this one. Lack of capital punishments is eroding our quality of life, and the value society puts on human life. Bring back the rope!
