Police are hoping to catch three fraudsters who are accessing ATMs in Melbourne's suburbs using fake cards to steal from people's bank accounts.

Melbourne detectives believe the trio may have travelled from Sydney to continue their crime spree on Thursday, 21 January when they used fake cards at two ATMs in Melbourne's CBD.

It is believed the fraudsters are armed with a large number of fake cards that contain PIN and debit card details skimmed in New South Wales.

It is thought that the fraudsters have moved across Melbourne, striking ATMs in Southland, Springvale, Carnegie, Keysborough and Toorak, before returning to Melbourne’s CBD on Wednesday night.

Detective Sergeant Greg Baker from Melbourne CIU said the fraudsters empty their target’s bank accounts and may spend hours at an ATM using card after card to access the funds.

"There is nothing obviously suspicious about their activity aside from spending more time than usual at the machine however they may do this in blocks," said Detective Sergeant Baker.

"There are no Victorian victims at this stage however we just don't know whether they have a skimming device in place while they carry out this other work."

Detectives are investigating whether the group have established links to a major crime syndicate in NSW currently involved in card skimming.

Police have released high-quality security images of three men they believe can assist with their investigation.

"We want to catch the people involved to stop them from continuing to offend or leaving the state but need the assistance of the public to identify those involved."

"They may be staying in Melbourne with friends or at a hotel and we urge anyone who might know their whereabouts or identity to help us out."

Police also believe that the same three men are responsible for the theft of two Eftpos card reading devices from retail stores in Westfield shopping centre, Airport West and a third from a fast food outlet in Fawkner.

Police would like to speak with the men pictured and are hoping that members of the public can help locate them.
