Australia now worships women

Julia Gilard and Quentin Bryce - the powerbrokers

Neil Mitchell says Australia is a place of 'women worshipping' after the saturated, positive coverage of the country now having its first female Prime Minister.

The 3AW host says the election will now be held in August or early September.

What has changed?

Mitchell says Gillard will 'hose down the mining tax ... and she'll look like a hero because of it' and the new Prime Minister will also 'find some new ground to fight on' in relation to the government's policy on asylum seekers.

Neil wants your feedback - what do you think has changed as a result of Kevin Rudd stepping aside and Gillard taking power.

  • What people should remember about Julia Gillard and her elevation to the Prime Minister's job is simply this; She was a member of Rudd's gang of four who ran the country without due regard to good governance. Shades of Gough Whitlam? As part of the gang of four she would have been well aware that Rudd was finally negotiating with the mining industry and was moving towards a resolution. That said, the window of opportunity for her to wrest power was closing and she and her factional henchman struck while the window was still ajar - just. All that being the case Neil, you have your pet name for Julia "Judas Gillard"

  • I cannot understand the sudden adulation of Julia. Yes, it is wonderful we have a female Prime Minister, BUT, it is still the same old labor party with all the stuff-ups and money wasting they are renowned for. I certainly hope this won't change peoples' mind when they come to vote. Our vote is too important to throw away on something this flippant surely.

  • Right you are, Michael Kerjman:
"A very home true is Australia worships women not much more than, for instance, India and Pakistan did and do.

Eventually, much more local voters prefer Australia's PM portrait updated to picturing quite explicitly Mr. T. Abbott's male features."

  • Neil @ 12.50pm, ALP uses the term Labor as per the US spelling as opposed to the Uk and Irish spelling British Labour Party and Irish Labour Party.
I wonder if it is to rebel against England.

  • does anyone know why we use the american spelling "labor" and not the english "labour". Every time i see american spelling i am reminded how simple minded and backward they are, i would hate for us to end up like that.

  • If you are going to criticise the Labor party, at least spell it correctly you dunces.
Here is an idea for all those terrified of our descent into socialism at the next election - stock up on canned goods and bottled water and seal yourself in a basement bomb shelter for about 8 years. You will be safe then, and the rest of us will be spared from your insane, paranoid prattle!
A further reminder - you dont vote for the Prime Minister in any election, this isnt the United States, you vote for your local member and the party with the majority of seats chooses their leader. This is politics people, stop acting so shocked. And gee, doesnt history show it to be such a disaster at the polls when a PM is ousted mid-term... like Keating... and McMahon...
