The Jackson Jive on Red Faces

A skit which appeared on Wednesday nights Hey Hey its Saturday has caused outrage throughout America.

The Jackson 5 themed Red Faces act featured 5 men with black face paint impersonating the famous pop act.

They were being judged by US crooner Harry Connick Jnr who instantly took offence and gave the act a 0 out of 10.

Host Daryl Somers later spoke to Connick Jnr who said that if he knew the act was going to be a part of the show he "definitely wouldn’t have done it."

Listen to ex-American resident John Michael Howson below and have your say.

Was the 'Jackson Jive' skit inappropriate?

  • Harry Connick jr. Is a hypocrite! A couple of years ago he did a skit about a black southern preacher. This is just Aussie humour! We didn’t make fun of them, call them names, or criticise. It was a skit! Michael Jackson WAS white and his brothers weren’t there is nothing racist about it. I also saw the segment on the American TV show The View and they also brought up the fact that we mistreated out Australian Aborigines. Which did happen and it was a terrible thing in Australias past. But my thoughts after watching that was HOW DARE THEY bring that up. This is coming from a country that enslaved their black people and almost wiped out the American Indians.

And on the subject of Australia being racist; I would like to say that we are no more racist then any other country! I happen to have friends who are from places like Lebanon and China and I also have a few native Australian friends and I am proud of it. Just because President Obama is black doesn’t mean that America isn’t racist! For all they know half their country might be racist. I am not going to say that we are all perfect and that it isn’t a problem but I am going to say that is no more a problem here then it is in America!

So on behalf of the Aussies I would like to tell Harry Connick jr, Whoppi Goldberg, the other members of the view and any other person who would like to criticise Australia without good reason to get off their high horses and think before they speak. The only people who have any right to complain are the Jackson Brothers.

    Thank you

  • This was a mistake. Nobody intended this to be an insult so please let's all just put it behind us.

These guys did not do anything out of any racism. They themselves were probably at the receiving end of racism because of their ethnicity.
Americans created this monster and now everyone has to walk on egg shells. Give these guys a break for God's sake. Why make their lives miserable because of something you perceive to be racist.

  • The only thing funnier than that skit was Harry's hissy fit. What a drama queen! Don't miss your flight home Harry, oh and btw, take whining Justine with you.

....I think MJ himself summed it up pretty well. Get over it and start living the philosphy of equality not jumping on the passing of MJ bandwagon to make some noise..Walk the Talk people!!!

  • Go home Harry. The vast majority of Australians couldn`t give a rats arse if you are yellow , black ,or white as long as you are a good person that`s all that matters to us, It`s your country men who have created this racist policy so don`t embroil us into your home grown problems.
