Blog: Your views on Scientology
PLAYING NOW: Senator Nick Xenephon, whose motion was defeated in the Senate, speaks to 3AW Drive.
REPORT: The Government and the Opposition have again blocked Independent Senator Nick Xenephon's moves for a Senate Inquiry into the Church of Scientology.
There have been various media reports that you are no doubt aware of over the past weeks detailing alleged cases of abuse by the church against its followers.
Forced abortions and brain washing have been two of the more serious allegations.
Is Xenophon unfairly targeting Scientology? Or are his calls for an inquiry warranted?

Does the Church of Scientology make sizable donations to our two major political parties, if so there is no way on earth they will investigate their cash supply.
Is the reason Independent Senator Nick Xenephon's motion is getting blocked because he is an independent and as such does not receive donations.
After all the church wants the main parties on their side.
Religion and Politics just don't mix!

I find it troubling that so few (ie. none) avowed scientologists have ever expressed any concern for the victims of abuses within Scientology. The knee-jerk response seems to be to attack the victims and call them liars - thereby increasing the betrayal from the Church.
This is so different to the responses by Catholics to allegations of child abuse. I know Catholics who love their church and are heartbroken at the abuses some small minority of priests have committed and others have covered up.
But I don't know a single scientologist who has ever shown a skerrick of human compassion for the victims of their church.
There's something very wrong with this picture.

If I hadn't been a Scientologist for more than 30 years and I read this I would probably be alarmed to. Fortunately, having been involved with Scientology at all levels, I know from personal observation that these outrageous claims about Scientology and Scientologist are just that... outrageous (and false) accusations. Sounds to me like most of the people posting here are decent folks who are concerned about what these kinds of claims. But I gotta tell you, the guys who are fabricating and spreading these lies know they are lies. The only think I've ever experienced from Scientology in all these years is help, decency, care about my welfare, friendship, support and integrity.

Candy - why be concerned - simple really - I am an athiest but some of the stuff that happens in this Church really concerns me - why should you be treated any different to any other cult? We can be respectful to anyone, but as soon as something has an affect on other people, which this has, then it should be treated no differently to anything else - ie the Catholic priests who have stepped over the mark etc etc - so take it on board and get on with it!

Scientology like its founder is an exageration of life.
Ron Hubbard exagerated his life & thru such mind exagerated his development of Scientology.
Hitler & the Nazis exagerated their master race & over rated themselves.
Hubbard & Scientology have done likewise by having exagerated the spirit as a thetan etc.
The danger of this is how such like minds tend to opt for totalatarian controls in the belief in their own exageration of themselves & how they overate themselves.
Scientologists can be very annoying by how they over rate themselves & their leader & by how they are often control freaksLisa Friday 19 March, 2010 - 2:51 AM -
Haven't scientologists got enough to worry about in combating the alien galactic ruler Xenu without also having to deal with Xenophon...
