Car slams into Ascot Vale bathroom

Posted by: 3AW Radio | 23 November, 2009 - 1:10 AM

Police expect to charge a 28-year-old woman who crashed her car into a house at Ascot Vale around 9.45pm on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old woman - who 'possibly exceeded the prescribed concentration of alcohol' according to police - apparently lost control of the Alfa Romeo she was driving on Kent Street before hitting a parked car which ultimately caused her to ricochet through the front fence of a house and and into the bathroom.

The vehicle struck a hot water system before coming to a halt which caused a gas pipe to rupture and ignite - the Melourne Fire Brigade extinguishing the fire quickly after arriving at the scene.

A couple in their early 50s were in the lounge area of the house at the time of impact while the surrounding area experienced power supply issues as a result of the accident.

The driver was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment and is expected to be charged on summons with careless driving and drink driving.

Police said it was lucky there were no more serious injuries to her or the occupants of the home and describe the car as a write off.

Blog comments Your Say

  • Hey, Emma and all who have posted comments on this matter - this is my first time here and might my last (if I don't get a response!). If you don't like the place then surely go . . . you and your kind won't be missed. Of course you could be brave and do something real like protest about your concerns = the problem in this state/ country is the punishment does not fit the crime. So _ what does one do. get active and protest - Oh, for what it it's worth my second son was killed as he was crossing the road to home by a very drunk young man - I believe this was his second offence of a similar nature. regards JMO

  • I also live on Kent St, and my family has written to the council regarding the consistent speeding. The council dismissed our letter and nothing was done. I sincerely hope they will sit up and take notice of the issue after last night's accident.

put them on an island and elt them do their worse
im sick of living in this country
ill emigrate and give up my citizenship we have weak laws and gutless judges who play golf with the premier every week!

  • I live in Kent St and heard this car fly past our house seconds before the crash. Speeding is a problem in Kent St and daily we see cars driving well above the limit. This car was travelling so fast that I'm sur as she went over the overpass she would have to have become airborne and then careered across the road. Thankfully the house occupants were not seriously injured and no car was driving on the other side of the road and no one was walking on the footpath. How do you start to eduate a 28 year old idiot...if they don't undertand at that age that drinking and driving or driving and speeding don't mix - what hope have we got.
