A warts-and-all depiction of Ben Cousins' drug addiction will feature in a TV documentary two years in the making and set to be screened before the end of the AFL season.

Cousins is seen using drugs  crying under the influence of an unknown substance and staring into the camera declaring he's "a drug addict".

Geoff Munro from the Australian Drug Foundation hopes the documentary sends the right message.

In response to the publicity surrounding the upcoming documentary, Richmond CEO Brendon Gale says: "This is a confronting story and one we sincerely hope has a positive impact on those that watch it."

"If what Ben and his family have been through serves as an important lesson to others then it has been worth doing."

"As we all know, Ben was in a very dark place. As a recovering drug addict, we believe his time at Richmond has helped him with his rehabilitation and we will continue to support him."

Will you watch the documentary.

  • Oh Matt please, are you comparing the toughness of an Aussie Rules player to a screaming Soccer Queen, you really are a fool, don't you think it's about time mummy and daddy kicked you out of home and you had to grow up, or do you have to wait until they have picked your bride!

  • Ben has been a champion and a wash out all in the span of ten years.

His rise and fall is a story that everyone should watch whether you are a football enthusiast or as a family that has been effected by drugs.

I for one can not wait to see, what should be, the closing chapter in his heart breaking and heart making story.

  • Why the hell would I watch a doco about some Aussie Bogan? He doesn't even play a sport that is known outside a few states in Australia. Imagine he played a sport that involved International scrutiny? This weak minded peanut would crack in 2 minutes, lucky for him he only plays Aussie Ball.
