David Hicks breaks silence

Posted by: 3AW.com.au | 20 November, 2008 - 11:09 AM

On the same day former Guantanamo Bay inmate David Hicks broke his silence, pleading for a control order placed against him to be lifted completely when it expires in December, the Australian Federal Police announced they will not seek to extend the order.

"Following extensive consultation with a number of agencies, the AFP has decided it will not be seeking a further control order in respect of Mr Hicks," the AFP said in a statement.

"The AFP has today advised the attorney-general and Mr Hicks' legal representative of its position."

Hick, a convicted terrorism supporter, spent six years inside the infamous Gunatanamo Bay prison before serving jail time in Australia last year.

The control order imposed on him since last December has meant Hicks has had to report to police twice a week and has not been allowed to leave Australia.

Do you think the AFP have got it right by not requesting an extension to Hicks' control order?

  • No way does this traitor deserve anymore breaks his break came when he was wrongly released from Guantamo Bay.All those bleeding hearts who think this scumbag should be considered for leniency are obviously on the same side as him.He is a terrorist who threatened (or intended to) our way of life and nothing will ever change that.
