Fines to increase in road blitz
Victorian Roads Minister Tim Pallas announced on the Neil Mitchell program that the fines for using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seat-belt will increase significantly.
Also in the interview, Mr Pallas told Neil there will be an increase of speed cameras on the road and more bookings on red light cameras because there will be digital cameras installed at intersections.
What do you make of the new measures?

I hate the term revenue raising. If you know that if you get caught talking on a phone or not wearing a seatbelt is going to cost $500.00 and demerit 5 points would you do it? Hell no!! That's half my take home may for the week. The cook would kill me. Up the fines by 200% + in my book, make it hurt in the pocket. That'll fix them.

These policies will do nothing but make money for the government as usual. Were the road control really of concern the government would introduce measures so cars could not travel so fast. Policing the roads in the way our police do is little more than being cash collectors for the tax man.

Dear Sir,
This increase is just for revenue raising.
How many times will we see the car full of kids slam into a lamp-post, you cant stop immaturity and poor education and our culture of pleasure first, responsibility second.Adrian Harris Thursday 20 November, 2008 - 3:04 PM -
They're running out of 'effective ideas' to keep the road toll down. So instead they'll make use of peoples mishaps and apply more pressure to every day life by raising the ammount of money for a fine, which the average person will struggle to pay. It's win win... as their effective ideas' keep failing, the money keeps rolling in. Bonus! Who said revenue was not a dirty word?
