Transport Ticketing Authority CEO Gary Thwaites has been 'moved on' in the wake of the apparent debacle that is the Myki ticketing system.

Neil Mitchell told listeners just before 10am today of the news before it was officially confirmed at around 10:30am.

3AW Political Reporter Heidi Murphy revealed the replacement for Thwaites is Bernie Carolan from Metlink.

"The official explanation is that Metlink and the TTA were always going to come together," Murphy said.

Currently, Myki is only operational on trains, despite a state government promise the travel smartcard would be fully operational on trains, trams and buses by the new year.

"As the current Metlink chief executive, Mr Carolan has overall responsibility for providing public transport services with coordinated information about ticketing, fares and services," Mr Pakula said.

"A large part of the TTA's function will be transferred to Metlink when myki is fully operational and Mr Carolan's appointment will support that transition."

Mr Pakula also took a swipe at Kamco, the contractor that has been unable to deliver Myki on time or on budget.

He said he had met with top executives from Kamco's parent company, and they had promised extra resources to get the project back on track.

"The government is obviously frustrated that the contractor has not met its contractual requirements to deliver myki," Mr Pakula said.

"Kamco has flown in experts from overseas to help resolve outstanding issues and get myki working on all modes [of transport]."

"The Victorian Government and the ticketing authority are determined to work with Kamco to get the myki roll-out completed so commuters can enjoy the full benefits of myki."

  • This article refers to commuters enjoying the full benefits of Myki. Just what exactly are they? I can't wait to hear the spin and gloss that will be used to snow us into thinking Myki is a good thing.

  • Has there been any comment if this useless appointment has been terminated with a very large sum of taxpayers money going to him upon his sacking.
It appears that all government departments reward useless managers with large sums for poor performance
