Hardcore porn bust - 20,000 DVDs

Posted by: Zara Dawtrey, The Examiner | 8 July, 2010 - 10:41 AM

Detectives have netted what is believed to be the biggest haul of illegal hardcore pornography in Tasmanian history.

Acting on information provided by a police informant, Launceston detectives yesterday executed a search warrant on a Hadspen property believed to have been a centre for the illegal distribution of X-rated pornography.

Police will allege that search uncovered 15,000 to 20,000 X-rated DVDs.

Police had to hire a truck to take the collection to Launceston Police Headquarters.

Detective Constable Sarah Campbell said police would allege a Hadspen man, 30, was in the process of setting up a ``shop'' in the garage of his home, aiming to sell the X-rated DVDs to the public.

"Material such as this is subject to significant regulations _ and it is obviously highly inappropriate for DVDs of this nature to be sold out of someone's garage,'' Detective Constable Campbell said.

The suspect is helping police with their inquiries.

  • Watching porn is illegal in Tasmania?

  • Obviously Julie doesn't have a sense of humour~! Btw Jules, 85% of retail porn sold is Australia is actually puchased by WOMEN~! It would be similar numbers for X rated DVD hire.

  • X-rated porn should be legal - that way it can be properly monitored, taxed, kept out of reach of children and no black market would exist. No brainer really.
