Hunt for sexual predator taxi driver

Posted by: 3AW Radio | 27 November, 2009 - 1:24 PM

Police are seeking the assistance of hotel patrons following the sexual assault of a 40-year-old woman in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It is alleged the woman was assaulted by a taxi driver on the way home from the Corner Hotel, in Swan Street Richmond.

Detectives from the Darebin CIU were told the woman left the hotel and stood on the curb of the footpath a short distance from the entrance around 2.10am.

A short time later, a yellow taxi pulled up alongside her and remained stationary.

Two men wearing light coloured, short sleeved tops spoke to the driver for about 30 seconds before walking east on Swan Street.

Detectives want to speak to these two people as they may be able to help identify the taxi driver.

After the men walked away, the woman got into the taxi and was driven to the northern suburbs. She was sexually assaulted during the journey.

Investigators are appealing for the two people appearing in the CCTV vision, or anyone who may have been near the hotel on that morning, to contact Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
