IKEA can't hide from this mob
3AW Breakfast 'BBQ-Stopper'
UPDATE: IKEA has released the following statement in regards to 3AW's coverage of the guerilla hide-and-seek game apparently planned for an IKEA store.
"We are aware of a number of hide and seek events that have been planned to take place in IKEA stores in Australia but to our knowledge none have actually gone ahead," the statement said.
"We place a very high level of importance on the safety of our customers and whilst we have never looked to ban such events from taking place, we would never condone any activity that put our customers at risk or impacted negatively on their experience in our stores."
"In the past, when we have been made aware of planned hide and seek activities, we have attempted to contact the organisers to ensure that they are aware of our attitude to these events."
The planned 'hide and seek' is not the first time IKEA has been targeted, with a film called 'IKEA Heights' filmed in one of the chain's stores in the US and watched by thousands of people on YouTube.
EARLIER: A call to arms has gone out to Melbourne teenagers for a “massive” game of Hide and seek at a inner-city IKEA store.
The event has so far attracted the attention of nearly 3,000 Melbournians all set to descend on the store on August 29.
The organisers of the public Facebook Event write “come along and play a huuuge (sic) game of hide and seek in ikea on sunday august 29th! it will be heaps of fun ♥ may the best person win.”
A similar event occurred in December 2009 at an Ikea store in Sweden which attracted 150 attendees when it was reported that the “flash mob” scared customers and forced some to flee via the emergency exits.
It is unknown if IKEA officials are aware of the event.
