Luke Robinson The Ripple Effect

Posted by: 3AW Radio | 12 July, 2010 - 1:03 AM

PLAYING ABOVE: The brave Robinson family join 3AW's Neil Mitchell in the studio to discuss their son's death and the new road safety ads they have championed. A must-listen.

REPORT: The family of a road crash victim hopes their message will make other young people think twice before speeding.

Nineteen-year-old Luke Robinson died earlier this year.

And his family is featured in a new series of road safety ads where they're joined by friends, work-mates and witnesses to the crash to explain the ripple effects of road trauma.

His father Norm Robinson says it was a difficult thing to do but he hopes it may help save lives.

  • i just wanna say my deepest condolence to luke's family and friends. i lost a friend in speed driving last yr as well. and i know the feeling what exactly you people have gone through. the pain, the memories still not forgotten. all i want to say is "they will always stay in our hearts". and those reckless drivers out there, take this as a wake up call and do not deprive your family of "U"!

  • Dear Robinson family and friends. I am so sorry you lost your boy in this life , but he is not "dead" His spirit does not die , you will see him again !

Until that day , you need to continue your work to warn others about bad driving , and campaign for new drivers having to do a defensive driving course as a mandatory part of attaining your drivers licence.

  • I live in Europe, Slovakia in fact. These TV commercials achieve nothing. The only way is absolute sledgehammer penalties. Over here, 00 drink driving. Get caught .001.... 6 years loss of license and big fines. Caught driving with no license? 6 months jail, mandatory. ( Jail here is not like the comfy Australian style either) No vehicle modifications are allowed unless engineer approved....20â?? wheels and lowered to the ground, no chance, these modifications make the vehicle handle in a different manner to which is was designed. What about mobile phones, everywhere in Melbourne, drivers, including truckies and bus drivers on the phone. Here, 6 years loss of license and big fines. Road safety is dead serious here.
Hoon driving in Oz? 48 hour loss of vehicle. Borrow mums car, whats the problem?

Unless the government get dead serious, more dead is the result. But heavy penalties will potentially cost votes... so forget it. Continue the pointless commercials.

  • This is getting over done. And put the $1.3 billion into public transport not miki and over done offensive road safety adds. More people on public transport means less on the roads. I used to use public transport but stopped because it is 3rd world
