Macchour Chaouk 'shot dead'

REPORTER: Herald Sun reporter Liam Houlihan speaks to Derryn Hinch about today's dramatic events.
UPDATE: Police have revealed more details about the shooting, with the gunman still at large as of 2pm.
LISTEN: Detailed report which includes crosses to paramedics, details of the 'gang war' and people at the scene of the crime.
SATURDAY: The 57-year-old Altona North man being spoken to by Homicide Squad detectives over the death of Macchour Chaouk has been released without charge.
"The investigation is ongoing and as such, would be inappropriate to comment further," said Victoria Police in a statement.
FRIDAY: The patriarch of one of Melbourne's crime clans, Macchour Chaouk, has been shot dead at his home in Brooklyn.
Police confirm a man in his 60s was gunned down at the address in Geelong Road around 11am.
Officers say they are yet to apprehend the gunman and have advised the public to avoid the area.
The Chaouk family has been embroiled in a long running feud with a rival Lebanese clan, the Haddaras.
Macchour Chaouk's son Mohammed was killed by police at the same house in 2005.
Macchour and two of his sons, Walid and Omar, were arrested there earlier this year and all are free on bail.
In 2000, Machour Chaouk was sentenced to five years prison for trafficking heroin.

They want to make a movie out of it, don't you people see the way each story is set out?..They get their story, publish it, make their money and go home sleep hapily, while others have to sit and put up with imbeciles like this pathetic media we Australians have. Please, if it was up to me i'd turn the tables around and have a justified country. Australia is beginning to fall apart as we can tell, but the media is giving the Chaouk family a bad name..all you people know is that they are a notorious family who kill whoever get in their way, but no..look behind the scenes and stop believing what your ears here because that's exactly what they want you do. Look for the clear picture, because at the end of the day all they looking for is their money and what kind of labeled suit their wearing, they dont care about us.

I am disgusted at the fact that the Chaouk family with all their bad history is getting such great media coverage. 1 year ago a 28 year old man was gun down, he was taken away from his family and children, and the media only hung on one word "eye for an eye."This murder was a true catastrophe. However the Chaouk family are a major threat to society and have been attached to drugs, theft, murder, weapon possesions and no regard to authority and are all over the news. Where's the JUSTICE. This family needs to be locked away for good. Look at the past 1 son of Chaouk shot dead in 2005, Chaouk prisoned twice for drug trafficking, Ali Chaouk in prison facing numerous charges, Metawali Chaouk also facing numerous charges!! I think the Federal Police & Victoria Police should stop trying to look after the safety of the Chaouk family and lock them all up for the good of the Australian SOCIETY!

Trial by media. O.K m.chauok wasnt father of the year but the media sensationalising of the family feud is getting crazy.
By the way CHAUOK did what he could get away with- crime wise & in australia that seems like alot!
Unlike wiliiams/gatto circus , this family never courted media attention, never ringing or giving sit down interviews etc.
Seems like the media attention bought all this to a head-i mean helicopters zooming on wailing relatives please!this isnt L.A
On the otherhand something is drastically wrong that this family & its ilk could deals drugs with impunity for over 2 decades without been shut down earlier.
Seems like the crims arent scared of the police because OUR LAX SENTENCING POLICIES RUN IN THEIR FAVOUR.THEIR NEEDS TO BE DRASTIC changes to our sentencing & welfare system they both are too lenient. This is the Melb the tourism agents desperately dont want people to see. After this little tit for tat its swayed me to vote Liberal-

A family have lost a father and a wife has lost her husband . We need to remember that their are no winner's in wars of any nature. Yes these people have shady past a use their agency to break the law .Let the law deal with them. Their is no need to disrespect a dead man. He will be judge by his maker and so will we.

Why are we allowing Aussie Soldiers to Die in Afghanistan, when the Immigration Dept is allowing Terrorists into our Country to Kill, and Deal Drugs to our Kids.
