Man charged over Ghursan Singh death

A 23-year-old Indian national has been charged with manslaughter, due to criminal negligence, over the death of three-year-old Gurshan Singh Channa.

Gursewak Dhillon, a taxi driver in Australia on a student's visa, was refused bail in an out-of-sessions court hearing at Melbourne's St Kilda Road police complex last night.

The hearing was told Dhillon was being investigated by the Immigration Department over false passport allegations and was regarded as a flight risk.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ron Iddles, of the homicide squad, said Dhillon, a resident of the house Gurshan disappeared from, had made admissions about dumping the boy.

Detective Senior Sergeant Iddles said Dhillon "placed the child in the boot of his car unconscious but still alive’’.

"He then drove up to at least three hours with the child in the boot of the car, eventually stopping at Oaklands Junction, where he placed the child from the boot into the grass and did not check to see if the child was alive,"  Detective Senior Sergeant Iddles said.

Dhillon then returned to the Lalor home, Detective Senior Sergeant Iddles said. No evidence was presented as to how the boy was rendered unconscious.

Dhillon was dressed in a short-sleeved polo shirt at the hearing, before bail justice Ben Czerniewicz.

Dhillon, who has a child in India and a wife in Melbourne, said he would surrender his driver's licence and passport and that he would stay with a friend in Melbourne.

But Detective Senior Sergeant Iddles said the friend no longer wanted anything to do with him.

The homicide squad detective added: ''There are allegations that he is here under a false passport and that is being investigated and there will not be a result for at least another week.''

Dhillon, who has been living in Melbourne since June 2008 and said he was planning to start a courier business this week, was remanded in custody to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Earlier in the day Gurshan's parents, Harjit Singh and Harpreet Kaur, attended a religious service to mourn the death of their little boy.

On Saturday, the couple spent an hour viewing their son's body.

An autopsy last week failed to determine a cause of death and Gurshan's fully clothed body showed no signs of trauma.

  • Davo, you are right but the apology should be from the sensationalistic, hysteria driving Australian media, they should be made to put full page ads in newspapers and run ads on TV apologizing to the white Australians, after all is it not a racial slur on Caucasian people???

  • Indie is right.
The other aspect of the Indian Migration issue is that the poorer, less educated well educated newcomers are being exploited.
What are White Australians tuning into?
We're going backward at an alarming rate if we allow things like all Indian hand car washes.
It's sickening to drive past them and see some White fat cat sitting there waiting for his Range rover to be buffed by scurrying immigrants.
I was in Pancake Parlour at the weekend and every one of the staff was Indian or Chinese and every customer was White.
What are the politicians and capitalists doing to this country? We're headed to Apartheid, only in the reverse direction, even if there are 30 million non Whites and 5 million Whites in 2050 we'll still be rich and they'll still be poor. We'll be living in opulent gated communities and they'll be living in slums.
Contrary to what the liars on the Left will tell you the so called "White Australia" policy was enacted in part to stop the exploitation of immigrants.
We can wash our own cars, we can go and pick up our Pizzas ourselves like we used to.
What ever happened to egalitarianism and a fair go?
The problem is that these poorer Indians can't compete with other races so they'll always be at the bottom of the pile.
They're not taking "our" jobs because they're not capable but they're filling "Servant" jobs that don't need to exist, that are encouraging an elitist attitude among Whites.
Race is real and it matters.

  • I have spoken to Indians living in Australia and they always have said that the attacks on Indian students were fishy. This has been proved true in many cases. Police had lost their chance to solve the Nitin Garg crime by losing sight of evidence defending it is not a racist attack.

The media should put interviews of many indians who think not all attacks are not racist.

There attacks are in specific sect of Indian community and it happens to people in an immature age group 18-25. Students from India are coming into western culture where one night stands and happy divorces are common. For a Indian student when his girl friend sleeps with Y it will induce a fatal rage, immature response. Their limited educational background must be considered.

Rules should be made to avoid bringing spouse and children if students are studying short course or if students do not have a bachelors degree.

Kids are vulnerable. They cannot adjust to living with many adults in a shared accommodation. They cannot distinguish from bad and good people, which is challenging even for an adult.

  • So much for an "evil white racist" being the perpetrator of this crime. Don't hold your breath waiting for an apology from the Indian community, though. white folks.
