UPDATE: Ambulance Victoria's Paul Bentley can not confirm whether the truck involved in what is now believed to be a two-vehicle collision near the Western Ring Road exit inbound on the Princes Freeway was a Red Bull Racing truck carrying Mark Webber's driving equipment.

"We were called just after 3pm to a truck and a ute involved in a collision ... we had one of our Ambulance Victoria managers who was on his way back from Point Cook and he organised another ambulance to turn up," Bentley told 3AW Drive.

"The driver of the ute was very lucky. The truck and ute collided and the ute was then forced into a tree head on with extensive damage to the front of the ute."

"The airbag went  off but thankfully the driver has only minor injuries."

3AW has spoken to Red Bull Racing off-air and have been told only the F1 team is also trying to piece together the details of what exactly has happened.

Earlier, David phoned 3AW Afternoons to says 'one of Mark Webber's Red Bull racing trucks' had driven over the top of a Toyota Landcruiser ute and caused a 'five car pile-up'.

"Red Bull Racing is written all over the side of the truck's containers," he told 3AW's Denis Walter. "A paramedic was driving past and is now treating one of the people."

Another caller phoned 3AW Radio minutes later to say the te traffic was pretty bad around the scene of the crash and two police cars are 'flying up the freeway' to get there.

It is not yet known whether Webber's F1 racing car or related equipment was damaged in the accident.

The Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix event starts next week.
