UPDATE: Police are questioning three men aged in their early 20s over a series of ramraids in Melbourne's north this morning.
Seven service stations were targetted and cash, cigarettes and stock were stolen.
A stolen red Ford was used in the robberies and at one stage the bandits rammed a police car when they tried to intercept them.
Inspector Ross Guenther says the service stations hit are in Broadmeadows, Dallas, Thomastown, Reservoir, Kinsbury and Heidelberg Heights.
RAMRAIDS:

Police in the northern suburbs have been kept busy overnight investigating a series of ram raids on petrol stations.
Detectives believe the first incident occurred around 3.37am at a petrol station on the corner of Union Street and Gilbert Road in Reservoir.
This was then followed by a further six ram raids in the following locations:
- 3.55am - High Street, Thomastown
- 4.30am - Upper Heidelberg Road, Heidelberg Heights;
- 4.45am - Link Street, Reservoir;
- 5.22am - Hughes Road, Reservoir;
- 5.45am - Camp Road, Broadmeadows; and
- 5.47am - Dobell Place, Dallas.
Investigators were looking for two males who were driving a late 80's model, red EA Ford sedan which had damage to the front and sides.
Around 7.10am this morning a member of the public contacted triple zero (000) after hearing a description of the vehicle on the radio and advised they had seen the car in the Reservoir area near Wright Street.
A police unit was sent to the area and when the sergeant turned into Wright Street, he saw the vehicle coming towards him, the vehicle rammed the police car and then reversed to evade capture.
The passenger of the vehicle jumped out and was arrested at the scene by the sergeant whilst the driver and the vehicle sped off down Clinnick Street.
A short time later the Ford was located near the corner of Goulburn and Kitchener Streets, the driver had fled the scene.
A 28-year-old man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in locating one of the offenders and the vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au

I work in the Northern Suburbs - and drive Sydney road North from the western ring road to Camp road every day. There is little if no obvious Police presence at all. Is this because the citizens are so well behaved, or because the crime has turned the area into "no go zones" for Police.
We need a spin doctor to explain it.PS Barry road Speed and red light camera is like disco lamp most days.

Anyone who has lived in Melbourne for any length of time knows that the level of violence is increasing at an alarming rate. That a little pet dog could be so brutally attacked in its own back yard is simply disturbing and evidence of the surge of violence happening here. There are too many knives, and too much violent entertainment. This attack on the dog was simply for sadistic entertainment. Crimes against animals should be much more severely dealt with.

Sorry Neil, you got this one so wrong. Fantasy knives are just that. They are not strongly constructed, they are of poor quality ( in knife terms) steel and are for show. Can't imagine hiding the one you have down my pants anytime soon. It's box cutters ( sorry for the US term)that are now the problem and it's slashing not stabbing that is in vogue. Idea is to leave your victim marked for life, almost like a grafitti tag. Sad but true.

i have no problem with police searching for knives, i was a by-stander of violence on a train, and there was no help given by ANYONE,the young man who stood up to the bullies, calmly rang the police from his phone, (the driver can't do anything)nxt, we ended up in a carriage ruled by a group/gang of young men & their skankTHE MOREL OF THE STORY IS: don't help anyone: everyone for themselves

Well said Daniel. You can go to any Dept. store and buy a whole knife block for the price of that collectable knife. No Neil, the extra handles aren't for twisting when inserted, its a decorative item. Going on about banning these items is just a waste of time. Just because you don't like the look of it doesn't make it wrong. Your arguements don't make sense.
