Judy Moran's house has been damaged by a suspiciously lit fire just hours after she was charged with being an accessory after the fact in the murder of her brother-in-law.

The front of the house at Ormond Road in Moonee Ponds, in Melbourne's inner northwest, was engulfed in flames about 11pm yesterday.

A passing motorist, and then three neighbours, reported the fire to the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, spokesman John Taylor said.

Fire officers had to break into the unoccupied property to gain entry when they arrived. Six fire trucks were called to the cream-brick home.

"The fire is suspicious. It was under control in 10 minutes. We will be sitting on it all night in case it re-starts," Mr Taylor said
