Mum furious at club over girl's death
The mother of a woman killed in a high speed crash at North Fitzroy in July has questioned why the underage driver was served alcohol in a club, prior to the crash.
Seventeen-year-old Jackson Dunbar and his 29-year-old passenger, Rebecca Taylor, were killed when their car smashed into a pole.
Rebecca's mother, Penny, told Neil Mitchell Jackson had been drinking alcohol at the Craigieburn Sporting Club on the night of the fatal smash.
The club has confirmed it did the wrong thing and has handed over CCTV footage to police.
The barman in question has since resigned.

Ashleigh, its time people took responsibity for there own actions, every person involved have to have a good hard look at them selves, and learn from making very silly choices.

Rebecca [my sister] was under the influence of alcohol, so therefor her state of mind, she wouldn't be normal would she? so therefor she assumed that the driver was responsible because being under the influence of alcohol she thought she was safe, but not knowing that Jackson was over point 0.5, unlicenced, got handed the keys, and still thought he was a man who could take the law into his own hands.
If jackson did all this responsibly, and took notice of this law we have- we'd have my sister, our family member; alive today.
rest in peace rebecca.

I work at the Craigieburn Sporting Club and was at the club the night this incident occured. All i will say is that if this kid was 17, thats not what he was leading everyone to believe, the bartender who i will not name and the man he was with were joking about serving a 17 year old boy and what the ramifications would be... It was obvious that they knew each other and the bartender knew this kid was 17. It is bizarre to see all these comments defending the boy, he knew what he was doing... And elise the girl might have been 29 and was the 'adult' as you put it, but if jackson wanted to go to bars, drink, and drive and crash cars, then he should be considered an ADULT,, because appatently he was well over '18' the night he was getting served alcohol at this club. In closing this is a tragic turn of events that has obviously effected the lives of many involved. From what i saw on the night there was a lot of dodgy things occurring and this boy and his 'uncle' were trouble as soon as they walked into the venue.

I am a very close friend of Jackson Dunbar (we considered eachother brother and sister). I'm furious too! To say that his "uncle" gave him the keys would be wrong. This man was not his uncle but a matinence man at the high school Jackson had just quit.
He was a good kid with a heart of gold, but was often lead astray by so called "mature" adults.
If you want someone to point the finger at, start with the man who gave the keys to Jackson, the man who pretended to be his "Father" that night.
It is not fair to blame a 17 year old boy who now can't defend himself.
Besides if all parties were aware of how old Jackson was,(yes including the parents of this Rebecca Taylor)why didn't anyone stop him, why did Rebecca Taylor get in the car with him? Especially since they had both been drinking. She was the adult in this situation a 29 year old and she should have known far more better than this.Elise Monday 6 September, 2010 - 9:08 PM -
From all reports and articles i've looked at it has stated that the car was stolen... So the uncle gave the 17 year old boy the keys to this car... Interesting. and the club served a 17 year old alcohol at the start of a disastrous night, Justice would be for the establishment to hire effective bar staff who don't serve alcohol to teenagers. Because last time i checked Andrew it was illegal to serve a 17 year old alcohol, or weren't you aware of that??

Justice would be found in the the uncle for giving an intoxicated 17yr old his car keys and letting him drive considering a driver must be 00 until the age of 21yrs and the mother Penny for letting Bec get in the car with him both at the club and after they'd gone back to her place and then back out for more alchohol which is when this terrible accident and waste of life occured. A pissed 17 yr old behind the wheel is a receipe for disaster let alone someone with extensive driving experience.
