Horse meat. Would you eat it? Neil Mitchell speaks with a butcher after a Western Australian Minister granted a special license to allow the sale of horse meat.
Vince Garreffa, of Mondi Di Carne gourmet butchers, overcame his aversion to eating horse yesterday and said it "tastes like beef with a slight sweet overtone".
Mr Garreffa recognises that it is a very emotive issue and said people shouldn't try horse if they are not comfortable with it

hi we disagree with this.
We might have cows and sheep on our plates but some things just arn't meant to be on a plate.
Each animal has there own perpouse on this earth so for eating some for helping some for love and huggs so as you can see horses are not an animal to be on a plate.kat & lyss Saturday 28 August, 2010 - 7:13 PM -
It's an interesting discussion. The fact is no meat eater has the right to tell people not to eat horse - a horse is an animal like any other. Yet, I'm a meat eater and I do not want to eat horse.
I wrote a blog about this:

Eating horses?
Nothing would make me disagree more than eating a precious thoroughbred. I believe the saying "i could eat a horse" should stay a myth to us Aussies. We should be very ashamed to be eating any such meat! Why us Canberrans are the Brumbies!Arabelle Thursday 15 July, 2010 - 10:30 PM -
I believe the horse deserves a bit more respect that ending up on our dinner plates. The noble horse has bravely carried our solidiers into battle, they help police the street. Up until the last century, they provided transport and pulling power for farmers. They are our partners, not dinner. They haven't been purpose bred to be dull of mind, unimaginative and easily led to slaughter, like sheep and cows.
The horse has served man well for thousands of years, alongside dogs. Let's not reduce them to a steak on the bbq.
