Oakeshott rejects Gillard, and Abbott

Rob Oakeshott, Independent MP

Federal Independent MP Rob Oakeshott has declined the Labor's offer of a ministry in the Gillard Government.

The Prime Minister offered Mr Oakeshott the chance to become Regional Affairs Minister in her minority government.

A short time ago he formally rejected the approach after speaking with Ms Gillard earlier this afternoon.

Mr Oakeshott says he has spent the past few days mulling over the decision with family and friends.

He said the birth of his fourth child would make it difficult to properly carry out the duties involved in such a role.

Mr Oakeshott also believes he may not be the best person to oversee Labor's $10 billion package to improve health, education, and broadband services to regional Australia.

He has revealed the Coalition also offered him a ministerial position during a fortnight of negotiations to decide on who should form minority government.

  • It's not 'Oakeshott's rejected'!
It's Oakeshott the non-thinking 'REJECT', he and Windsor both.
Let's at least get that right folks!
