Party Pill concern

Posted by: Luca Gonano | 19 August, 2009 - 10:03 AM
An organic pill promising euphoria, energy, alertness for up to six hours has been launched in the Australian market under the marketing slant of being an 'economic and safe alternative to illegal and harmful Ecstasy pills'.

Herbal Party Pills are being marketed as a safe alternative to illegal substances with its manufacturer assuring the public that they are non-addictive.

The product is aimed squarely at the younger members of the community.

Common sensations felt by takers of the product have included euphoria, energy, alertness for up to six hours, aural and visual senses enhanced, stimulation of brain and central nervous system, skin tingling and hallucinations (in larger doses).

The Drug Foundation of New Zealand describes 'party pills' in the following way:

Party pills are psychoactive substances that have recently been introduced to the recreational drug scene.

Party pills are often based on two ingredients, BZP (benzylpiperazine) and TFMPP (triflouro-methyl-phenylpiperazine), combined with other chemicals such as piper nigrum, phenylalanine, tryptophan and tyrosine. [Please note: we do not yet know what is in the new "BZP free" pills currently being sold - as soon as we know, we will update this page]

Party pills are designed to mimic the effects of illegal drugs such as methamphetamine (speed, P), MDMA (ecstasy) and LSD (acid, trips), although without the addictive qualities and known negative health risks of illegal drugs.

Little is known about the long-term effects of party pill substances, although there are research projects currently underway in New Zealand to analyse the long-term effects.

  • Party pills are rediculous, people say there is no come down o what ever, me like a fool thinking they were just filled with caffine etc took one the other night. I was off my trolley, i wasnt violent but foolishly trusting and the next day i actually thought i was going to crack up, couldnt sleep eat drink. Terrible stuff. Dont try these things, i tried real e tablets a few years ago and they were not near as bad. Sayong that drugs are absolute crap and should never be taken legal or not. Alcohol is the gateway drug my friends.

  • Couldn't agree more with you Suzie. Steve Fielding also drew attention to the advertising of alcohol around sport. This practice especially in motor sport is in such opposition to .05 legislation. Alcohol Advertising around sport further entrenches our drinking culture. Focus off the pills and on the alcohol Neil.
