PLAYING NOW: Justin Smith and Tom Elliott comment a story that Neil Mitchell broke on May 24th this year, which has resulted in several police being charged.

REPORT: Several police are likely to face criminal charges over the treatment of a man subsequent death of a man after he was released from Dandenong Police station earlier this year.

The 53 year old died at the Dandenong hospital about 15 hours after being released by police.

It's understood Homicide Squad investigators have seized video footage from outside the police station that shows five officers dumping the visibility ill man in a puddle while it was raining and the temperature was twelve degrees.

 MAY 24th 2010

EXCLUSIVE: A bleeding prisoner pleading to police for help has died while in custody.

Witness 'Jay Jay', an interpreter, was called to the Dandenong police station to help  question a Chinese man aged in his 50's.

He was arrested on the 12th of May and Jay Jay claims the man was bleeding, had soiled himself and crawled from his cell "like a dog".

She's told Neil Mitchell police initially refused him medical help.

The man was later transported to hospital where he died the next day.

Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius says the man arrived at the station in a very distressed state but admits he's not seen the video footage of the lead-up to the tragedy, which Neil Mitchell says a source has described as 'appalling' and 'disgraceful'.

  • Every interstate police officer that Victoria Police has inherited in recent years, endorsed by the Labour Party, have turned out first class dills. First Nixon, then 'Bullets' Overland, now Cornelius at Dandenong.
    P..s 'em off.

  • Assistant Commissioner Cornelius is a great man. He is the most experienced law enforcement officer in Australia. He has received many awards including Australia day honours. Soon he will be Victoria s new Chief Commissioner. Cornelius is already propping up Overland. Mr Cornelius is honest and is highly respected by all police. He is totally independent without any political allegiances. He is a great man of god. He has a plan and a vision to move Victoria Police forward.

  • I see Overland is not staying anything, where is he? 3AW your comments are 100%. Are we really in 2010???

  • The interpreter is fantastic but I fear for her. Victoria Police would not be happy.

  • I hope for the publicâ??s sake the OPI do not get involved. They stuff all investigations. This leaves the ESD to investigate but Cornelius was until recently in charge of ESD! Bias is already there. Is Cornelius going to be held accountable? Dandenong is his station and he is in charge of it.

  • Cornelius is all about spin. He has been put out in Dandenong to obtain some operational experience before his next promotion to Deputy Commissioner. The interpreterâ??s actions should be applauded but unfortunately she will not get any more work from Victoria Police. How many more cover up deaths are there?
