The suspect - Doug Croft

Police are appealing for witnesses to a pursuit from Gisborne to Tullamarine on Saturday involving the man police believe was responsible for a terrifying spree of thefts starting with the carjacking of a young mum and her three-year-old daughter on Thursday.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone in the public who may have seen a black Honda Jazz driving erratically on the Calder Highway from Gisborne to Tullamarine between 4.40pm and 5pm.

The 40-year-old Melton South driver was intercepted at the intersection of Mickleham Road and Melrose Drive in Tullamarine and arrested.

Police are particularly hoping to hear from the driver of an orange ute who was forced to take evasive action after the Jazz crossed onto the wrong side of the road.

Anyone who may have witnessed the Honda Jazz driving in an erratic manner at the above locations is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
