Rio mayor bans bizarre sex bracelets
AFP: A Brazilian mayor has banned so-called 'sex bracelets' worn by children to flaunt their sexual preferences from all public schools, saying they lead to inappropriate discussions.
"I passed the law because this business leads to wrong discussions about sex ... we have 12-year-olds speaking inappropriately about sex because of this fad," Navegantes Mayor Roberto Carlos de Souza said on his official website.
He said the bracelets are now banned in all local public schools and teachers would be required to give students sex education and explain to parents what the wristbands indicated.
The cheap, brightly coloured plastic bracelets similar to those used in health, fitness and political campaigns have apparently been repurposed by students to express their sexual preferences.
Red is said to indicate kissing, while violet indicates sexual intercourse and black stands for sodomy.
The bracelets are reportedly used in a game of tag where the bracelet is broken off and its wearer is required to perform the colour-coded act.
Navegantes teachers discovered the game after two children were caught hugging intimately in a school in nearby Itajai.
