See below the statement axed Melbourne Storm chairman Dr Rob Moodie posted via the @StormInsider Twitter account this morning.

Dr Moodie was out of the country last week when he was axed by News Limited, the financial backers for a Deloittes report - which it seems few people have read - damning the Storm over salary cap rorts from 2006-2010.

STATEMENT: The last couple of months have been incredibly tough for all of us and for our families – but the one of the great features has been the way you continue play on the field and the way the fans will literally defend the Storm to the death.

As Directors we are part of the Melbourne Storm because it is full of great people – people who work hard, who are really decent people who support each other, who consider each other as family.

In acting on your behalf and on behalf of the fans, sponsors, staff and fans we have been constantly inspired by the way you are coached, by the way you play, the way you depend on each other, the way you defend  your own line, and by your passion, commitment, guts, teamwork, and amazing skills. You guys set the standard!

The day the penalties were announced Peter and Petra promised you that we would do everything to get a fair go and get the premierships back.

And I want to thank Peter, Gerry, and Petra for the enormous amount of guts they have shown in taking on the NRL and the News – because it was the right thing to do, and because they wanted to live up to the promise that we hade made to you.

We are no longer officially part of the club – but we will forever remain a part of the Storm spirit and the Storm culture.

And of course we’ll do anything to continue to support you and the club.

We’ll ask just one favour and we’ll be very selfish about it  – we’d like you to win for us (and for all the fans across Australia of course).

Go Storm!!

Rob Moodie

Should News Limited men be sacked?

Peter Maher PETER MAHER EDITORIAL: "The board of the Melbourne Storm was made up of six members the four independents and Craig Watt and Frank Stanton who are both employees of News Limited. Both Watt and Stanton remain on the board they were not sacked."
