'Sex On Fire' controversy

Posted by: By Ben Wise, at the MCG | 14 March, 2009 - 2:15 PM

US rockers Kings Of Leon did not play their worldwide hit, 'Sex On Fire', at Saturday's Sound Relief concert out of respect for the victims of the Black Saturday bushfires.

At their media conference at the MCG prior to performing, the band acknowledged it was a sensitive song at the moment and despite being a massive hit 'they would not play the song live'.

Controversially, Foxtel stations Music Max and Channel V used the song - set to images of the shocking blazes which killed over 200 people - in their video montage to promote the concert, which is being held at both the MCG and the SCG in Sydney in aid of the victims of Australia's worst natural disaster.

Minutes after Kings Of Leon left the MCG stage, the promotional video was screened to the thousands of fans at the venue - again including a snippet of 'Sex On Fire'.

3AW.com.au will be at the event all day, filing reports, photos and videos.

Blog comments Your Say

  • Did anyone raise an eyebrow when Midnight Oil Sang their chorus" How can we dance when our Earth is turning, how do we sleep while our beds are burning"?? No. I dont understand what all the fuss over sex on fire is about.. If your going to kick up a stink about one song why not all songs with the words fire or burning in them??
