Sly and Neil Mitchell on Milne case
WEDNESDAY: A former detective claims senior police decided not to pursue rape charges against Stephen Milne because a failed case would have proven too expensive.
Mike Smith claims he was also pressured into backing off in the 2004 investigation.
Senior constable Scott Gladman was the first to break his silence.
Mike Smith has now told Channel Nine he received similar phone calls.
The Office of Police Integrity is investigating the claims, while police now admit concerns were raised at the time but may not have been followed up.
TUESDAY: Police command has confirmed a complaint was lodged over the handling of rape allegations against two St Kilda footballers.
Former senior detective constable Scott Gladman claims he was intimidated and harrassed by fellow police officers over the 2004 investigation - who pressured him to make the allegations 'go away'.
The case eventually collapsed and charges were never laid.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Steve Fontana says a full investigation has been launched into the claims.
Rape case to be re-opened?
Former police whistleblower Simon Illingworth says the handling of the police investigation into a rape accusation against Stephen Milne was "strange". He says his wife Sarah worked on the case in the Victims Advisory Unit.

Well, well, well.Missing files and now missing recorded interviews.Several months ago I suggested Victoria have the most corrupt police force in Australia.I rest my case.

Head of senior police must have been St.Kilda fans.
I'll never forget that case involving Milne and Montagna.
It made me think why would any woman press charges if she had been raped by a footballer.
It would most likely come to nothing, she says he says...not enough evidence etc. and the AFL is a force to be reckonned with.Usually where there is smoke there is fire.
No respect for them both since.
I hope something comes from this.
So many other footballers respect women and can hold their head high and play amazing footy.Caz Wednesday 23 June, 2010 - 11:42 PM
